Location: Newcastle upon Tyne (In-Person)
Hours: Part-time, 4 hours per week (School hours only)
Schedule: 2 hours on Friday afternoon + 2 hours on another weekday afternoon
Benefits: Flexible daytime hours | Highly rewarding | Term-time only | SEN & Mental Health Support
Are you a compassionate, patient, and fluent German speaker who wants to make a real difference? We are seeking a dedicated In-Person Tutor in Newcastle to provide specialist GCSE German tuition to a student currently unable to attend mainstream school due to special educational needs (SEN), behavioural challenges, or mental health difficulties.
You will work in a 1:1 setting, offering tailored language support that helps this student re-engage with learning, prepare for their exams, and rebuild confidence. This is a highly rewarding role for an educator who wants to change lives—one student at a time.
What the Role Involves
* Deliver 1:1 GCSE German tuition for exactly 4 hours per week.
* Commit to a fixed daytime schedule consisting of 2 hours on Friday afternoon and 2 hours on another weekday afternoon (all sessions must take place during school hours, typically between 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM).
* Work with the student in person within their home or a local community setting in Newcastle.
* Tailor curriculum delivery to the student's specific GCSE exam tier and learning pace, using personalised, creative teaching methods.
* Focus on rebuilding trust and engagement with learning, balancing academic targets with emotional support.
* Communicate closely with parents/carers, schools, and support professionals to track and promote progress.
* Log student outcomes and feedback clearly to support each learner’s journey.
Hours & Flexibility:
* Fixed weekly commitment of 4 hours per week for this specific student
* Strictly daytime hours during the school term, ensuring your evenings and weekends remain completely free.
* Potential for more hours by assigning you additional students in the Newcastle area if desired.
Who We’re Looking For:
* Expertise in GCSE German with strong subject knowledge of the current UK curriculum and exam boards.
* Experience tutoring or teaching children, especially those with SEN, SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health), or school-refusal tendencies.
* Confident working independently and managing an in-person, daytime timetable.
* Excellent rapport-building skills to connect with and motivate anxious or disengaged learners.
* Resilience, creativity, and patience, understanding that progress takes time.
* An Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain one) and up-to-date safeguarding knowledge.
Why This Role Matters:
The student you will work with has been out of mainstream education and needs consistent, empathetic support to bridge the gap. Your sessions will not only prepare them for their modern foreign language qualifications but will also serve as a crucial environment for building self-esteem and resilience.
