How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.

    Domestic Technical Engineer – Social Housing – London & Surrounding Areas – Up to £48,000 Basic + Overtime OTE of £58,000 with OT

    Are you an experienced Domestic Gas Engineer with advanced fault-finding and diagnostic skills?

    Do you have the technical knowledge to resolve complex heating faults, support other engineers and improve engineering standards across a busy Social Housing contract?

    CBW is currently recruiting for a Domestic Technical Engineer to work across a portfolio of Housing Association and Local Authority properties throughout London and the surrounding areas. The successful candidate will act as a senior technical resource, attending complex, recurring and previously unresolved heating and hot-water faults. You will also inspect completed work, investigate repeat call-backs, provide technical support to engineers and help maintain consistently high standards of workmanship and compliance.

    This is an excellent opportunity for a highly experienced domestic heating engineer looking to move into a senior technical position while remaining hands-on in the field.

    Role Locations:

    South East London
    South West London
    North LondonMy client is also willing to consider engineers based around the M25, so applications from all suitable locations are welcome.

    Duties & Responsibilities

    Attend complex, recurring and previously unresolved domestic heating and hot-water faults.
    Carry out advanced fault finding across boilers, heating systems, hot-water systems, controls and associated components.
    Diagnose the root cause of intermittent faults using an evidence-led approach.
    Test pumps, motorised valves, thermostats, programmers, wiring centres, sensors and heating controls.
    Diagnose faults across S-plan, Y-plan, multi-zone, open-vented and sealed heating systems.
    Use a multimeter to complete voltage, resistance, continuity and functional testing.
    Inspect completed or problematic work to assess diagnosis, workmanship and technical compliance.
    Review repeat call-backs and identify the underlying reason for recurring faults.
    Provide technical advice and support to domestic gas engineers in the field.
    Assist with engineer coaching, toolbox talks, training and competency development.
    Support technical investigations following gas-related incidents or serious service failures.
    Preserve evidence and produce accurate reports where further investigation may be required.
    Ensure work complies with Gas Safe requirements, relevant legislation and company procedures.
    Maintain an appropriate working knowledge of HSE requirements, RIDDOR and incident-escalation procedures.
    Complete detailed and auditable technical reports, including test results, readings, photographs, findings and recommended remedial action.
    Communicate technical findings clearly to engineers, management, residents and clients.
    Complete job reports using a PDA.
    Provide professional customer service within occupied residential properties.
    Participate in the out-of-hours call-out rota.Hours of Work

    Summer: 8:00am–5:00pm
    Winter: 8:00am–6:00pm
    Average 42.5-hour working week
    Overtime available
    Call-out rota approximately 1 in 4–8, depending on areaPackage

    Current domestic ACS qualifications, including CCN1 and CENWAT.
    Approximately 10–15 years’ substantial hands-on domestic gas and heating experience.
    Extensive experience diagnosing complex and recurring boiler, heating and hot-water faults.
    Strong understanding of S-plan, Y-plan, multi-zone, open-vented and sealed heating systems.
    Strong knowledge of heating controls, wiring centres and electrical fault finding.
    Confident using a multimeter for voltage, resistance, continuity and functional testing.
    Previous Social Housing experience is essential.
    Previous experience as a Senior Engineer, Lead Engineer, Technical Engineer, Diagnostic Engineer, Gas Supervisor or Gas Inspector is desirable.
    Experience inspecting completed work and assessing technical quality.
    Ability to produce detailed, evidence-based technical reports.
    Working knowledge of gas-safety requirements, HSE guidance, RIDDOR and incident escalation.
    G3 Unvented qualification or willingness to obtain it.
    An electrical qualification, 18th Edition or recognised controls training would be advantageous.
    Full UK Driving Licence.
    Enhanced DBS clearance or willingness to complete the required check.
    Own calibrated flue gas analyser, standard hand tools and suitable electrical diagnostic equipment.
