5S Recruitment is working with an established precision plastics manufacturer seeking an experienced Maintenance Engineer for its South London facility.
The business manufactures technically demanding injection-moulded components and assembled products for highly regulated industries, including medical, pharmaceutical and diagnostics. The site operates approximately 60 injection moulding machines across white-room and classified cleanroom environments, supported by robotics, automated assembly and inspection equipment.
The role
As a Maintenance Engineer, you will help maintain production equipment, respond to breakdowns and improve machinery reliability across a busy manufacturing operation.
Your responsibilities will include:

Completing planned and reactive maintenance.
*
Diagnosing electrical and mechanical breakdowns.
*
Maintaining injection moulding machines and automated production cells.
*
Working with hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical systems.
*
Supporting linear robots, conveyors and product-handling equipment.
*
Maintaining ultrasonic welding, laser-marking, camera-inspection, assembly and packing systems.
*
Fault-finding on motors, sensors, contactors, relays, inverters and temperature-control systems.
*
Supporting auxiliary equipment such as dryers, chillers, compressors, vacuum systems and material-handling equipment.
*
Investigating recurring faults and identifying root causes.
*
Supporting machinery upgrades and continuous improvement projects.
*
Working closely with production, process and tooling teams to minimise downtime.
*
Completing maintenance records within a regulated manufacturing environment.
The equipment
The facility includes precision injection moulding machinery, KraussMaffei equipment, Wittmann robotic systems and bespoke automated assembly and inspection cells.
What we are looking for
*
Previous experience as a Maintenance Engineer, Multi-Skilled Engineer or Maintenance Technician.
*
A recognised electrical or mechanical engineering qualification.
*
Strong electrical and mechanical fault-finding skills.
*
Experience maintaining automated manufacturing equipment.
*
Knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics, motors, drives, sensors and control systems.
*
The ability to diagnose faults on PLC-controlled machinery.
*
A practical and methodical approach to breakdowns.
*
Injection moulding, plastics, medical device, pharmaceutical or packaging experience would be advantageous.
This position would suit a hands-on engineer who enjoys proper fault-finding and wants to work within a technically advanced manufacturing environment.
