How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Business Development Manager
This established and expanding engineering consultancy is looking to appoint an experienced Business Development Manager to lead the growth of its Structural Engineering division.
Due to continued growth, this is a new strategic role to increase market share, secure high-value structural engineering commissions and build long-term relationships with clients across the construction industry.
If you have experience selling structural engineering, civil engineering or technical consultancy services and enjoy developing relationships, this could be the ideal opportunity.
    The Role
You'll take ownership of business development across the Structural Engineering business, identifying new opportunities and creating sustainable growth within both existing and emerging markets.
Working closely with the Directors and engineering teams, you'll develop relationships with developers, architects, project managers, contractors and consultants to secure structural engineering commissions across a diverse portfolio of projects, including commercial, residential, industrial, infrastructure and public sector developments.
You'll lead the commercial aspects of major opportunities, from identifying projects and qualifying leads through to tender submissions, commercial negotiations and successful appointment.
You will also be responsible for managing and developing a team of 3 sales executives, mentoring and helping them grow the business.
    About You
We're looking for someone with a proven track record of sales and business development within the structural engineering consultancy sector or a closely related engineering consultancy environment.
You'll be confident building relationships with senior decision makers and understand how structural engineering consultants engage with developers, architects, contractors and project teams throughout the construction lifecycle. You will need to have a strong understanding of the UK construction market and procurement routes along with excellent networking, presentation and relationship management skills.
Package: £50-60,000 Basic, £10,000 OTE, Business and Travel Expenses, Company Pension
