How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Role: BESS Project Manager

    Location: Manchester / Site-Based

    Contract: Outside IR35

    Rate: Up to £600 per day

    Duration: 12 months

    Sector: Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) / Renewable Energy

    H9 Talent Solutions is working with a leading organisation within the renewable energy sector to recruit an experienced Contract BESS Project Manager to oversee the delivery of a major Battery Energy Storage System project in Manchester.

    This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Project Manager with a strong background in BESS, renewable energy or complex electrical infrastructure projects to take responsibility for a significant project through its construction and delivery phases.

    The Role

    As BESS Project Manager, you will take overall responsibility for the successful delivery of the project, coordinating contractors, consultants, suppliers and key stakeholders to ensure works are completed safely, on programme, within budget and to the required technical standards.

    Key responsibilities will include:

    Lead the day-to-day delivery of a major utility-scale BESS project.

    Manage the project programme, budget, milestones and key deliverables.

    Coordinate EPC contractors, civil contractors, electrical contractors, OEMs and specialist suppliers.

    Oversee site activities including civil works, electrical installation, BESS installation, grid connection and commissioning.

    Monitor contractor performance and ensure delivery against agreed schedules.

    Identify project risks, delays and commercial issues and implement appropriate mitigation measures.

    Chair project meetings and provide clear progress reporting to senior stakeholders.

    Manage interfaces between the BESS, HV infrastructure, grid connection and Balance of Plant packages.

    Ensure all works are delivered in accordance with relevant HSE, quality and regulatory requirements.

    Manage variations, change control and project documentation.

    Support testing, commissioning, energisation and project handover.

    About You

    We are looking for an experienced Project Manager with a proven track record delivering complex energy or electrical infrastructure projects.

    Ideally, you will have:

    Previous experience delivering utility-scale BESS projects.

    Strong project management experience within renewable energy, power generation, HV infrastructure or grid-connected projects.

    Experience managing EPC contractors and multidisciplinary project teams.

    A strong understanding of construction programmes, project controls and commercial management.

    Knowledge of HV electrical infrastructure, grid connections and commissioning.

    Excellent contractor and stakeholder management skills.

    Strong knowledge of CDM, HSE and construction-site requirements.

    The ability to take ownership of a project and drive contractors towards key milestones.

    Relevant engineering or project management qualifications would be advantageous.

    Contract Details

    This is a contract opportunity outside IR35, offering a rate of up to £600 per day, depending on experience.

    The successful Project Manager will need to be able to spend significant time on site in Manchester throughout the project delivery period.
