How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Senior Quantity Surveyor - Building

    Location: Huddersfield, West Yorkshire
    Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience

    Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join their Building team, supporting a diverse portfolio of projects across West Yorkshire, the North West and UK wide

    The role will focus particularly on fast-track healthcare and education projects and works within occupied buildings, with project values typically ranging from £500k to £5m.

    This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially driven Quantity Surveyor to take significant ownership of project performance, working closely with operational teams, clients, consultants, and supply chain partners to ensure projects are delivered successfully from procurement through to final account.

    Key Responsibilities

    Take full responsibility for the commercial management of projects valued between £500k and £5m
    Manage projects through the full commercial lifecycle, from procurement through to final account
    Work across fast-track healthcare projects and occupied buildings, managing the additional commercial and logistical challenges these environments present
    Manage cost control, forecasting, reporting, valuations, and final accounts
    Lead subcontract procurement, tender analysis, negotiation, and contract administration
    Prepare and manage applications for payment, variations, compensation events, and claims
    Monitor project performance against budgets, forecasts, and commercial targets
    Identify commercial risks and opportunities and implement appropriate mitigation strategies
    Work closely with Project Managers and operational teams to maximise commercial performance
    Support value engineering and cost-saving initiatives throughout the project lifecycle
    Maintain strong relationships with clients, consultants, subcontractors, and suppliers
    Lead final account negotiations and ensure commercial matters are resolved effectively
    Mentor and develop Assistant and Junior Quantity Surveyors
    Contribute to the continuous improvement of commercial processes and proceduresAbout You

    We are looking for a commercially astute Senior Quantity Surveyor with strong construction experience and the confidence to take ownership of projects in demanding environments.

    You will ideally have:

    Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor within a main contractor environment
    Experience delivering fast-track projects,
    Experience working on projects within live and occupied buildings advantageous
    Proven experience managing projects valued between £500k and £5m
    Strong experience managing projects from procurement through to final account
    Excellent knowledge of measurement, valuation, cost control, and forecasting
    Experience with subcontract procurement, negotiation, and contract administration
    Good knowledge of standard forms of construction contract
    Experience managing variations, applications, payments, and commercial claims
    Strong understanding of construction methodology, drawings, specifications, and buildability
    The ability to identify and manage commercial risks and opportunities
    Experience with value engineering and dispute avoidance/resolution
    Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills
    Previous experience mentoring or managing junior commercial staffExperience within healthcare, education, commercial, refurbishment, fit-out, or other occupied building environments would be highly advantageous.

    RICS membership or progression towards professional qualification is desirable, but not essential.
