The Opportunity

Are you a Civil Engineer with experience in flood risk, hydraulics, hydrology or sustainable water engineering looking for your next opportunity?

We are working with a leading multidisciplinary engineering and environmental consultancy that is delivering high-impact projects across the UK, helping clients address some of the country's most complex environmental and infrastructure challenges.

As a Civil Engineer - Flood Risk, you'll join an established Flood Risk and Sustainable Water Engineering team, working on a diverse range of infrastructure and development projects.

Projects range in value from £100k to £100m, giving you the opportunity to work across a variety of schemes and project stages, from early feasibility and optioneering through to detailed design and project completion.

This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer looking to broaden their technical experience, work on meaningful projects and develop towards chartership within a supportive and collaborative team.

The Role

You will support the delivery of a wide range of flood risk, water and civil engineering projects across the UK.

Your responsibilities will include:

Supporting the design and delivery of flood risk and sustainable drainage solutions.

Working on river engineering and flood risk mitigation schemes.

Undertaking and supporting hydraulic modelling and hydrological assessments.

Developing drainage strategies incorporating SuDS and natural flood management approaches.

Contributing to projects from early-stage feasibility and optioneering through to detailed design and close-out.

Supporting technical assessments, calculations, reports and design deliverables.

Working collaboratively with multidisciplinary engineering and environmental teams.

Engaging with clients and other project stakeholders.

Supporting project management activities and contributing to the successful delivery of projects.

Assisting with bids, proposals and business development activities.

Supporting and mentoring more junior members of the team.

Helping to develop innovative and sustainable solutions that improve flood resilience and support communities and infrastructure.

Technical Experience

We're looking for candidates with experience or a strong interest in areas such as:

Hydraulics and hydrology.

Civil, structural or water engineering.

Flood risk assessment and mitigation.

River engineering.

Hydraulic and flood modelling.

Sustainable drainage systems (SuDS).

Natural flood management and nature-based solutions.

GIS and spatial analysis.

Data analysis, computational tools, programming or automation.

Sustainable and resilient infrastructure design.

Experience across multiple areas is advantageous, but we recognise that candidates may have developed particular technical specialisms throughout their careers.

About You

You'll ideally have:

A degree in a relevant discipline such as Civil Engineering, Water Engineering, Environmental Engineering or a related subject.

Professional experience within civil, structural, water or flood risk engineering.

UK project experience - essential.

Experience or knowledge of flood risk, hydraulics, hydrology or drainage.

Strong written and verbal communication skills.

The ability to produce clear technical reports and communicate effectively with clients and multidisciplinary teams.

A collaborative approach and the ability to work effectively as part of a wider project team.

An interest in developing your technical and professional expertise.

A willingness to support and mentor junior colleagues.

Working towards or holding ICE or CIWEM chartership would be desirable.

A full UK driving licence - essential.

Eligibility for SC clearance would be advantageous.

Location & Working

The role is based in the North West, with Manchester preferred, although other North West locations may be considered.

Hybrid working is supported, with occasional travel required for UK-wide projects. Some flexibility around working hours may also be required depending on project needs.
