How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Tunnel Engineer / Lead Tunnel Engineer

    Remote / Home Based | Long-Term Programme

    DFM Resourcing has an excellent opportunity for experienced Tunnelling Engineers to support the development of complex underground infrastructure for a major UK nuclear new-build programme.

    We're recruiting at both Engineer and Lead Engineer level and are particularly interested in candidates from major tunnelling, rail, infrastructure, energy and underground engineering projects.

    The Role:

    Responsibilities may include:

    * Tunnel and underground structure design

    * Shafts and associated underground infrastructure

    * Ground-structure interaction

    * Tunnel alignment development

    * Excavation support systems

    * Permanent tunnel lining design

    * Settlement and ground movement assessment

    * Construction-stage behaviour

    * Assessment of tunnel construction methodologies

    * Numerical modelling

    * Structural and geotechnical tunnel design

    * Design substantiation

    * Technical assurance

    * Managing technical work packages and third-party engineering inputs

    * Multidisciplinary interface management

    The Lead requirement combines both geotechnical and structural tunnel design, including ground conditions, alignments, excavation support and permanent lining design.

    Experience Required:

    * Civil, Structural or Geotechnical Engineering background

    * Proven tunnelling / underground infrastructure design experience

    * Strong understanding of excavation support and underground construction

    * Ground-structure interaction experience

    * Knowledge of relevant Eurocodes, BS EN and tunnelling standards/guidance

    * Numerical modelling experience

    Experience with PLAXIS and/or FLAC is particularly relevant. BIM/Revit workflows and requirements-management experience are advantageous for senior appointments.

    Chartered Engineer status is preferred/required depending on the level of appointment.

    Transferrable Sectors:

    Rail | Underground Infrastructure | Major Civil Engineering | Energy | Nuclear | Regulated Infrastructure

    You do not need to have spent your career in nuclear.
