How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.

  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.

    Technical / Design Manager
    Location: Potters Bar, Hertfordshire
    Salary: Up to £75,000 per annum

    The Opportunity
    Hill McGlynn are currently working with an established specialist contractor who are looking to appoint an experienced Technical / Design Manager to join their team, based from their offices in Potters Bar, Hertfordshire.
    This is a key technical position within the business, taking responsibility for the design and technical management of high-rise recladding projects across RIBA Stages 3-6.
     
    We are specifically looking for candidates with previous experience within the high-rise recladding sector, including experience in the preparation and coordination of Building Safety Regulator (BSR) submissions.
    The successful candidate will work closely with clients, consultants, designers, specialist subcontractors and internal project teams, ensuring design information is coordinated, compliant and suitable for successful project delivery.
     
    The Role
    As Technical / Design Manager, you will take ownership of the technical and design process across high-rise recladding projects, from developed design through to construction, completion and handover.
     
    Key responsibilities will include:

    Managing the design and technical process across RIBA Stages 3-6.
    Taking responsibility for the design coordination of high-rise recladding and façade projects.
    Coordinating architects, façade consultants, structural engineers, fire consultants and specialist subcontractors.
    Supporting and coordinating the preparation of Building Safety Regulator submissions.
    Ensuring design information meets relevant Building Regulations, Building Safety Act requirements and project specifications.
    Managing design programmes, information release schedules and technical deliverables.
    Reviewing drawings, specifications, reports and technical submissions.
    Identifying and resolving design coordination, buildability and compliance issues.
    Chairing and contributing to design and technical meetings.
    Managing RFIs, design changes, approvals and technical queries.
    Coordinating specialist façade and cladding design packages.
    Working closely with project and site teams throughout the construction phase.
    Ensuring technical information is issued in line with project programmes.
    Supporting procurement through the review and coordination of subcontractor design information.
    Maintaining accurate technical and design records throughout the project lifecycle.
    Supporting project completion, handover and close-out requirements. About You
    We are looking for an experienced Technical Manager or Design Manager with specialist knowledge of high-rise recladding projects and the current building safety environment.
     
    You will ideally have:

    Previous Technical or Design Management experience within the high-rise recladding sector - essential.
    Experience preparing, coordinating or supporting BSR submissions - essential.
    Strong experience working across RIBA Stages 3-6.
    A strong technical understanding of façades, cladding and building-envelope systems.
    Experience coordinating multidisciplinary design teams and specialist consultants.
    A good understanding of the Building Safety Act, Building Regulations and regulatory requirements affecting higher-risk buildings.
    Experience reviewing technical drawings, specifications and design information.
    Strong knowledge of design coordination, buildability and construction sequencing.
    Experience managing design programmes and information release schedules.
    The ability to identify and resolve complex technical and design issues.
    Strong communication and stakeholder-management skills.
    Excellent organisation and attention to detail.
    A relevant construction, architecture, engineering or design qualification would be advantageous. What's on Offer?
