How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Baltic Recruitment are currently looking for an experienced Accountant to join an established accountancy practice based in Windermere, Cumbria.

    The practice provides bookkeeping, accounts and advisory services to a varied portfolio of small and medium-sized businesses across a range of sectors. Candidates should have practical experience in accounts, VAT, bookkeeping, personal tax, corporation tax or a combination of these areas.

    This is a great opportunity for an experienced practice accountant to take ownership of a varied client portfolio and work across accounts, bookkeeping, VAT and taxation.

    A key part of the role is the opportunity to see jobs through from start to finish - from preparing the accounts and calculating company and personal tax through to completing the work and communicating with the client.

    Purpose of Role

    To provide accurate and timely accounting, bookkeeping, VAT and taxation services to a varied portfolio of clients, ensuring work is completed to a high standard and within required deadlines.

    Key Duties:

    Prepare accounts for sole traders, partnerships and limited companies.
    Complete bookkeeping for a varied client base, primarily using Xero and Sage.
    Prepare and submit VAT returns accurately and within statutory deadlines.
    Prepare personal tax returns and assist with corporation tax requirements.
    Take accounts work through from start to finish, including preparing accounts, calculating company and personal tax and preparing completion letters for clients.
    Maintain accurate accounting records and carry out bank, control account and balance sheet reconciliations.
    Process journals, accruals, prepayments and other year-end adjustments as required.
    Work with clients to obtain the necessary financial information and resolve accounting queries.
    Review financial information and identify any issues or discrepancies.
    Assist clients with bookkeeping and general accounting queries.
    Use Excel for reporting, analysis and financial information.
    Manage multiple client jobs at different stages while meeting deadlines.
    Communicate clearly with clients and colleagues, explaining financial information in a straightforward manner.
    Support the wider practice with general accounting and client work as required.Key Requirements:

    Previous accountancy practice experience is essential.
    Experience working with a portfolio of clients in an accountancy practice environment.
    Strong experience across accounts preparation, VAT, bookkeeping and taxation, with experience in several of these areas essential.
    Experience preparing accounts for sole traders and limited companies.
    Experience preparing personal tax returns, with knowledge of corporation tax desirable.
    Proficiency with accounting software, particularly Xero and Sage.
    Strong Excel skills and confidence working with financial data.
    Good understanding of UK accounting principles, VAT and taxation.Desirable Skills and Experience:

    AAT qualified, ACCA part-qualified or equivalent.
    Experience working across a varied client portfolio.
    Experience using IRIS or other practice management/accounting software.
    Experience with payroll.
    Previous experience managing accounts from bookkeeping through to completion.
    Strong knowledge of personal and corporation tax.
    Experience working with small and medium-sized business clients.The Package:

    £30,000-£45,000 per annum depending on experience.
    Full-time or part-time hours available.
    On-site position based in Windermere, Cumbria.
