How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Taste Lab Technician

    Pay Rate: £13.07 per hour
    Start Date: Monday 7th September
    Duration: Expected to continue until at least January, with strong potential for extension
    Transport: Own transport is essential due to the location

    We are seeking a dedicated Taste Lab Technician to join our team, supporting the testing and quality assurance of food products.

    This practical role is ideal for someone who is accurate, dependable, physically fit and possesses excellent attention to detail. While previous experience in a similar role such as food production, food testing or quality control is advantageous, comprehensive training will be provided.

    Role Overview

    Your key responsibilities will include:

    Receiving and accurately weighing food samples.
    Conducting quality inspections on food products, including assessment of appearance and taste.
    Verifying product batch codes and other information for correctness.
    Manually handling and moving boxes of food products weighing up to 12kg repeatedly.
    Loading products into incubators as required.
    Safely using basic tools such as can openers and Stanley knives during the testing process.
    Maintaining precise records and adhering to established testing procedures.
    Identifying and reporting any quality concerns or discrepancies promptly.
    Ensuring the work area remains clean, organised and compliant with food safety standards.
    Working Hours

    Sunday: 07:00 – 15:00
    Monday: 08:30 – 16:30

    Additional hours may be available during annual leave or sickness cover periods, offering opportunities to increase your working hours as needed.

    Training

    The first week will consist of full training, running Monday to Friday, 08:30 – 16:30, commencing on Monday 7th September.

    Candidate Profile

    The successful applicant will:

    Demonstrate exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
    Be comfortable handling food products and following established procedures.
    Be physically fit and capable of repeatedly handling products weighing up to 12kg.
    Confidently use basic equipment such as can openers and Stanley knives.
    Be reliable, punctual and able to work independently.
    Possess good organisational skills with the ability to record information meticulously.
    Understand the importance of food quality and hygiene standards.
    Have previous experience in food production, quality control, laboratory work or related testing roles where possible.
    Be proficient in reading and writing English.
    Please note: Due to the location, your own transport is required.
