How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

Health & Safety Manager – Water / Civil Engineering

    Location: Hertfordshire & Project Sites

    Salary: £58,000 – £68,000 + Package

Sector: Water / Utilities / Civil Engineering

    Position: Permanent

We are recruiting for an experienced Health & Safety Manager to join an established civil engineering contractor delivering a portfolio of projects across major UK water infrastructure frameworks.

Based on Hertfordshire, this is a site-focused role covering multiple live projects across the region. The successful candidate will need a strong understanding of the UK water sector, ideally gained from working directly for a major water utility or for a contractor delivering projects across water frameworks.

Projects will typically be delivered under long-term water infrastructure frameworks, with individual scheme values generally around £1 million.

    The Role

As Health & Safety Manager, you will take responsibility for supporting and maintaining high standards of health, safety and compliance across a portfolio of live water and civil engineering projects.

You will also be responsible for managing and leading the safety team, working closely with operational and project teams to ensure consistent standards across all sites.

    Key responsibilities will include:

Managing and providing leadership to the Health & Safety team.

Carrying out regular site visits, inspections and H&S audits across multiple live projects.

Providing practical H&S advice and guidance to Project Managers, Site Managers and operational teams.

Ensuring projects comply with company procedures, legislation and client requirements.

Reviewing RAMS, Construction Phase Plans and other H&S documentation.

Identifying hazards, trends and areas for improvement across projects.

Leading and supporting accident, incident and near-miss investigations.

Monitoring subcontractor compliance and site working practices.

Supporting toolbox talks, safety briefings and workforce engagement.

Producing H&S reports and ensuring corrective actions are followed through.

Driving continuous improvement and maintaining a positive safety culture across the business.

    About You

We are looking for someone with:

Strong water/utilities experience, ideally gained on major UK water infrastructure frameworks.

Previous experience as a Health & Safety Manager or in a senior H&S position within construction, civil engineering or infrastructure.

Experience managing and leading a safety team.

    A NEBOSH qualification.

Strong experience working across live construction sites.

Good knowledge of UK Health & Safety legislation and construction regulations.

Experience with audits, inspections, RAMS and incident investigations.

The confidence to challenge unsafe practices while working collaboratively with site teams.

Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel regularly between project sites.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Health & Safety professional with a strong water-sector background to take a leading role across a portfolio of major infrastructure projects.
