How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

Quantity Surveyor - Derbyshire Construction Contractor

    Location: Derbyshire
    Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience
    Type: Permanent, Full-Time

An established Derbyshire-based main contractor, backed by a leading UK construction group, is looking to appoint a Quantity Surveyor to join its growing commercial team.

The successful candidate will support a Commercial Lead across a range of high-profile regional projects, typically valued between £5m and £50m, gaining exposure to a variety of sectors and project types.

    The Role

Working closely with the Commercial Lead and wider project team, you'll play an important role in the commercial management and successful delivery of your projects.

    Key responsibilities will include:

Supporting the Commercial Lead with the day-to-day commercial management of projects.

Assisting with subcontractor procurement, including obtaining and analysing quotations.

    Preparing and processing subcontract orders.

Monitoring and managing project variations and change.

Assisting with valuations, payments and cost reporting.

Monitoring project costs and commercial performance.

Supporting the preparation and agreement of final accounts.

Building strong working relationships with subcontractors, clients and the project team.

Identifying commercial risks and opportunities throughout the project lifecycle.

    About You

We're looking for a Quantity Surveyor with a background in main contracting who is keen to develop their commercial career on significant regional projects.

    You'll ideally have:

A degree in Quantity Surveying or a related construction discipline, or equivalent experience gained within a main contractor.

Previous experience in a Quantity Surveying / commercial role within construction.

Understanding of subcontractor procurement and commercial management.

Experience dealing with variations, orders and valuations.

    Strong numerical and analytical skills.

    Good communication and negotiation abilities.

A proactive approach with the ambition to progress within a successful construction business.

    The Opportunity

This is an excellent opportunity for a Quantity Surveyor looking to take the next step in their career, working alongside experienced commercial professionals on projects ranging from £5m to £50m.

You'll join an established business with the financial backing, resources and career development opportunities of a major UK construction group.
