How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Field Service Engineer

    Location: Corby, Northamptonshire
    Salary: £37,000-£40,000 depending on experience
    Job Type: Permanent, Field-Based
    Driving Licence: Full UK Driving Licence essential

    Are you a hands-on engineer looking for a varied field-based role?

    Barker Ross is recruiting on behalf of a leading specialist in mechanised irrigation and water management. We are looking for an experienced Field Service Engineer to join a growing team, providing installation, servicing, maintenance and repair of specialist irrigation equipment across the UK.

    This is a fantastic opportunity for an engineer who enjoys being out on the road, solving technical problems and working with a wide range of mechanical, hydraulic, diesel and electrical systems.

    No two days will be the same. You will spend the majority of your time working at customer sites, with occasional workshop-based duties.

    The Equipment

    You will work on a variety of specialist equipment, including:

    Irrigation booms and hose reels
    Pumps and pumping systems
    Hydraulic systems
    Diesel-driven equipment
    Electrical control systems
    Automation, sensors and controls

    Key Responsibilities

    Install, service, maintain and repair irrigation systems
    Diagnose and repair faults across mechanical, hydraulic, electrical and diesel systems
    Carry out planned preventative maintenance and emergency breakdown repairs
    Test equipment and ensure systems operate safely and efficiently
    Read and interpret engineering drawings, wiring diagrams and technical manuals
    Provide professional technical support to customers on-site
    Complete service reports and maintain accurate records
    Identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability and performance
    Work safely and in accordance with company standards

    About You

    We are interested in hearing from engineers with experience in:

    Field Service Engineering
    Mechanical Engineering
    Automotive Engineering
    Agricultural Engineering
    Plant Engineering
    FLT Engineering
    Maintenance Engineering
    Mobile EngineeringYou do not need previous irrigation experience. If you have strong technical and fault-finding skills and enjoy working with machinery, you will be given the opportunity to develop specialist knowledge within the irrigation industry.

    The ideal candidate will have:

    Previous experience in a field service, maintenance or engineering role
    Strong mechanical and electrical fault-finding skills
    Experience with hydraulics, pumps, diesel engines or industrial machinery
    The ability to work independently and manage your own workload
    Good communication and customer service skills
    A proactive approach and willingness to learn
    A full UK driving licence
