Salary: £40,000 – £46,000
The Opportunity
Summit Select is delighted to be working with a well-established property business in Harrogate that is looking to appoint an experienced RICS-qualified Land Agent to join its Agriculture Department.
This is an excellent opportunity for a Land Agent, Rural Surveyor or agricultural property professional looking to take the next step in their career, with the opportunity to manage your own portfolio of rural estates while working closely with the Head of Agriculture and wider professional team.
The role offers a varied mix of rural estate management, landlord and tenant work, rent reviews, agricultural grants and specialist rural property projects, alongside plenty of direct client contact.
The Role
As Land Agent, you will take responsibility for a portfolio of rural estates and act as a key point of contact for landlords, tenants and clients.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Managing a portfolio of rural estates and dealing directly with landlords and tenants.
- Handling day-to-day rural estate management matters and resolving queries efficiently.
- Undertaking rent reviews, assessing market evidence and making recommendations to senior colleagues.
- Managing rent collection and arrears, ensuring outstanding payments are followed up.
- Advising clients on agricultural and rural government grant schemes.
- Liaising with organisations including the Rural Payments Agency and Natural England.
- Preparing and assisting with grant applications and monitoring outstanding payments.
- Preparing and maintaining accurate land and property mapping using Pro Map, LandApp or similar software.
- Supporting client accounts, including reviewing statements, invoices and bills and assisting with reporting.
- Managing annual grazing agreements and associated documentation.
- Liaising with contractors regarding repairs and maintenance across rural estates.
- Supporting and project managing a variety of specialist and ad hoc rural property projects.
- Providing practical and professional advice to clients on land and rural estate management.
- Working closely with the Head of Agriculture and wider team to deliver a high standard of client service.
About You
We are looking for an experienced RICS-qualified Land Agent who is confident dealing with clients and capable of taking ownership of their own workload and portfolio.
You will ideally have experience within land agency, rural surveying, agricultural property or rural estate management, with a good understanding of landlord and tenant matters, rent reviews and the practical management of rural estates.
You will be commercially aware, organised and comfortable managing a varied workload. Strong communication and relationship-building skills are essential, as you will regularly work with landlords, tenants, contractors, clients and external organisations.
Essential Requirements
- RICS qualified – essential.
- Experience as a Land Agent, Rural Surveyor or in a closely related rural property role.
- Experience working with rural estates, agricultural property and/or land management.
- Good understanding of landlord and tenant matters.
- Experience dealing directly with clients and stakeholders.
- Ability to manage your own workload and take ownership of projects.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong client service and relationship management skills.
- Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office.
- Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Self-motivated, proactive and able to work independently.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively under pressure.
Desirable Experience
- CAAV qualification.
- Experience with agricultural rent reviews and landlord and tenant matters.
- Knowledge of agricultural grant schemes.
- Experience dealing with the Rural Payments Agency and/or Natural England.
- Experience using Pro Map, LandApp or similar mapping software.
- Rural estate management and maintenance experience.
- Previous experience within a professional property or surveying environment.
- Good knowledge of the local rural property market.
