Vickerstock are working in partnership with an international manufacturer on the appointment of a Buyer on a full-time permanent basis.
About the role
The Buyer will support the procurement and production objectives. You will be joining a fast-paced engineering environment, taking ownership of material procurement, supplier relationships, and order management. You will influence the purchasing performance and contribute to cost, quality and delivery improvements across the business.
Buyer Duties
- Raise, amend and manage purchase orders, ensuring accurate and up-to-date information is maintained within the ERP system.
- Proactively expedite outstanding and shortage orders to minimise the risk of production delays.
- Plan and manage purchasing activity in line with build schedules, material requirements and JIT principles.
- Develop strong supplier relationships to improve lead times, cost, quality and overall delivery performance.
- Monitor supplier performance and ensure vendor and purchasing information remains accurate and current.
- Coordinate transportation and monitor deliveries, working with Stores, Finance and suppliers to resolve delivery, invoicing and documentation issues.
- Review and interpret engineering drawings, bills of materials (BOMs) and other technical information where required.
- Work with suppliers and internal teams to investigate and resolve issues relating to defective, incorrect or unacceptable materials.
- Build effective working relationships across Procurement, Production, Engineering, Stores, Quality and Finance.
- Identify opportunities to reduce purchasing costs, improve supplier performance and support wider continuous improvement initiatives.
- Provide a proactive purchasing service that supports production requirements and contributes to the overall operational performance of the business.
About You
- Experience gained within a manufacturing or engineering environment.
- Comfortable managing multiple priorities, working to production deadlines and building effective relationships with both suppliers and colleagues.
- Experience using an ERP or MRP system, such as Epicor or similar.
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, with strong Excel skills desirable.
Desirable
- CIPS or equivalent procurement qualification.
- The ability to read and interpret BOMs and engineering drawings.
