HGV Technician /HGV Mechanic -The Role
We are currently recruiting for an experienced HGV Technician to join a professional and established team based at Edinburgh Airport.
This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified technician with a strong mechanical background to work in a busy vehicle and plant maintenance environment. You will be responsible for carrying out servicing, diagnostics, repairs and preventative maintenance to ensure vehicles and equipment remain safe, reliable and operational.
You will work closely with the Workshop Supervisor, Operations Manager and wider team, maintaining high standards of Health & Safety, quality and customer service at all times.
HGV Technician /HGV Mechanic -Key Responsibilities
Carry out servicing, repairs and preventative maintenance on HGVs, vehicles and plant.
Diagnose mechanical faults and identify required repairs and parts.
Carry out inspections, diagnostics, brake tests and smoke/emissions tests.
Complete job cards, inspection reports and maintenance records accurately using a tablet-based system.
Identify and report defects, required remedial work and vehicle off-road (VOR) issues.
Ensure parts, tools and equipment are handled, labelled and stored correctly.
Work in accordance with company Health, Safety, Quality and Environmental procedures.
Report accidents, near misses, hazards and vehicle defects promptly.
Maintain a clean, safe and professional working environment.
Working Hours
Initial Training Period
First 2 weeks: Monday to Friday, 06:00–14:30
Following 2 weeks: Monday to Friday, 08:00–16:30
Once Airside Pass Has Been Obtained
The working pattern will operate on a four-week rota:
Week 1: Monday to Friday, 06:00–14:30
Week 2: Monday to Friday, 08:00–16:30
Week 3: Monday to Sunday
Week 4: Wednesday to Friday
HGV Technician /HGV Mechanic- Skills & Experience
We are looking for candidates with:
Strong mechanical and HGV/vehicle maintenance knowledge.
Previous experience working within an HGV, vehicle or plant maintenance environment.
Good diagnostic and fault-finding skills.
Experience carrying out inspections, servicing and repairs.
Good communication and numeracy skills.
A customer-focused and quality-driven approach.
A good understanding of Health & Safety requirements.
Logistics, fleet or commercial vehicle experience would be advantageous.
HGV Technician /HGV Mechanic- Essential Qualifications
LGV Level 3 or equivalent in Motor Vehicle/Heavy Vehicle Maintenance.
City & Guilds or BTEC National Certificate or equivalent.
Forklift licence would be advantageous.
