How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    The Role

    The Trainee Quantity Surveyor will provide day-to-day commercial and administrative support to the Quantity Surveying and Senior Commercial teams across the electric framework.

    Working within a region allocated by the Commercial Manager, the role will be responsible for ensuring that daily track sheets and supporting information are accurately captured and converted into timely and accurate valuations. The successful candidate will work closely with Contracts Managers, Site Supervisors, Quantity Surveyors and the wider operational team to obtain the information required to value works, submit applications and invoices to the client, and provide appropriate supporting evidence.

    The role will also involve raising invoices following instruction from the Quantity Surveying team, responding to client queries, producing commercial and cost reports, and maintaining accurate project cost records to support the Quantity Surveyors in maintaining live CVRs.

    This is a development role for an individual looking to build a career in Quantity Surveying and commercial management within the utilities sector. The successful candidate will be expected to develop a strong understanding of the contract, valuation processes, cost control, commercial reporting and the importance of accurate and timely information.

    Responsibilities

    * Review and input daily track sheets for works completed within the allocated region.

    * Liaise with Contracts Managers, Site Supervisors and operational teams to obtain missing or additional information required to complete valuations.

    * Review completed works against the relevant contract rates, schedules and agreed commercial mechanisms.

    * Assist in producing accurate valuations for submission to the client.

    * Identify discrepancies, missing information or potential commercial issues and escalate these to the relevant Quantity Surveyor or Commercial Manager.

    * Raise invoices following instruction from the Quantity Surveyors and ensure invoices are submitted to the client correctly and within required timescales.

    * Maintain accurate records of valuations, invoices and supporting documentation.

    * Review queries received from the client and liaise with Contracts Managers, Site Supervisors and Quantity Surveyors to establish the correct response.

    * Provide timely responses to client queries with the objective of reducing outstanding queries, improving invoice acceptance and supporting positive cash flow across the contract.

    * Ensure project records are kept up to date to support the Quantity Surveyors with maintaining live CVRs.

    * Assist with general commercial administration and provide support to the wider commercial team as required.

    * Prepare and submit weekly valuation information for the allocated region in accordance with the requirements of the Commercial Manager and client.

    * Reconcile daily track sheet information against valuations and identify any omissions or discrepancies.

    * Produce regular cost analysis reports, including analysis of traffic management and reinstatement costs.

    * Analyse project cost information and highlight significant variances, trends or areas of concern to the Senior Commercial Team.

    * Assist with reconciliation between operational records, project costs, valuations and invoices.

    * Provide reports and information requested by the Senior Commercial Team.

    * Monitor the progress of valuations and invoices through the commercial process and highlight any potential delays to payment.

    * Attend relevant commercial or operational meetings where required and provide updates on valuation, invoicing and query status.

    * Continue to develop knowledge of the electric framework, contract requirements, client processes, commercial systems and Quantity Surveying practices.

    Technical Skills & Experience

    * Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach to data entry and record keeping.

    * Good numerical and analytical skills.

    * Ability to work accurately to deadlines.

    * Confidence in liaising with operational and commercial teams to obtain information.

    * Ability to investigate and resolve queries proactively.

    * Good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office.

    * Commercial awareness and an interest in developing a career in Quantity Surveying.

    * Ability to identify errors, inconsistencies and potential commercial issues.

    * Willingness to learn and develop knowledge of electrical/utilities contracts and commercial processes.

    Qualifications & Training

    * Working towards a comprehensive knowledge of Microsoft Office software, especially Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.

    Role Development

    As the individual develops within the role, they will be expected to take increasing responsibility for elements of the valuation, cost control and commercial management process, progressing towards a wider Quantity Surveying position.

    The role provides an opportunity to develop practical experience across valuations, invoicing, cost control, client liaison, commercial reporting, CVR management and contract administration, providing a strong foundation for a long-term career within the commercial team.
