How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Quantity Surveyor

    Location: Didcot, Oxfordshire

    Salary: £50,000 - £60,000 DOE

    Industry: Building and Construction

    About the Company

Our client is a well-established, family-run construction business delivering a range of domestic and commercial projects. Typical project values range from £20,000 to £500,000, with work generated through repeat business, referrals, and long-standing client relationships.

They pride themselves on maintaining a friendly, honest, and supportive working environment where employees are trusted, valued, and encouraged to build long-term careers.

    The Opportunity

This role is ideal for a self-sufficient QS who can take ownership of the tendering and commercial process from start to finish. Unlike larger organisations, this position offers the opportunity to be involved in every aspect of project pricing and cost management, working closely with Directors, site teams, subcontractors, and suppliers.

The successful candidate will be based in the office and will play a key role in supporting the continued growth of the business.

    Key Responsibilities

Producing accurate tenders and estimates for domestic and commercial construction projects.
Reviewing drawings, specifications, and tender documentation.
Sourcing and negotiating quotations from subcontractors and suppliers.
    Preparing budgets and cost plans.
    Monitoring project costs and profitability.
    Managing variations and additional works.
Preparing subcontract packages and procurement schedules.
Liaising directly with clients, subcontractors, suppliers, and site teams.
Providing commercial support throughout the project lifecycle.
Managing multiple tenders and live projects simultaneously.

    Candidate Profile

They are looking for someone who is commercially aware, organised, practical, and capable of working independently.

This role would particularly suit a Quantity Surveyor who has experience within a small to medium-sized contractor, where they have been responsible for projects from tender stage through to completion.

    Essential Requirements

Proven Quantity Surveying experience within the construction industry.
Ability to independently price and tender projects.
Strong understanding of domestic and commercial construction.
Experience working directly with subcontractors and suppliers.
Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
Excellent organisational and time management skills.
    Strong negotiation and communication abilities.
    Full UK Driving Licence.

    Highly Desirable

Experience working on projects valued between £20,000 and £500,000.
Previous experience with a regional contractor, SME, or family-run construction business.
Practical understanding of construction methods and sequencing.
Hands-on approach and willingness to be involved in all aspects of project delivery.

    What We Offer

Salary of £50,000 - £60,000 depending on experience.
    Potential future company car scheme.
    Stable, long-term career opportunity.
    Relaxed and supportive working environment.
Direct access to decision-makers within the business.
Genuine opportunity to become a key member of a close-knit team.
A company that values loyalty, integrity, and long-term commitment.

    Important

This position is best suited to a Quantity Surveyor who enjoys taking ownership of their work and thrives in a smaller business environment. Candidates whose experience has been exclusively within large commercial contracting teams delivering multi-million-pound projects may find the role significantly different from their previous experience.

They are looking for someone seeking a long-term home where they can make a genuine impact and become an integral part of the business for years to come
