How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Quantity Surveyor / Cost Consultant
    Location: Faversham, Kent
    Salary: £35,000 - £50,000 per annum

    The Opportunity
    Hill McGlynn are currently working with an established construction consultancy who are looking to appoint an experienced Quantity Surveyor / Cost Consultant to join their team, based from their Faversham office.
    This is an excellent opportunity for a Quantity Surveyor or Cost Consultant looking to develop their career within a professional consultancy environment, working across a varied portfolio of construction and property projects.
    The successful candidate will provide commercial and cost-management services throughout the project lifecycle, working closely with clients, contractors, consultants and other project stakeholders.
     
    The business offers a 37.5-hour working week, flexible start times and hybrid working, providing flexibility alongside excellent opportunities for continued professional development.
    A relevant construction or surveying degree is essential for this position.
     
    The Role
    As Quantity Surveyor / Cost Consultant, you will provide cost and commercial advice across projects from initial feasibility and pre-construction through to completion and final account.
     
    Key responsibilities will include:

    Providing Quantity Surveying and cost consultancy services across a range of projects.
    Preparing feasibility estimates, cost plans and project budgets.
    Providing cost advice to clients throughout the project lifecycle.
    Preparing tender documentation and managing tender processes.
    Analysing contractor submissions and preparing tender reports.
    Supporting procurement and contractor appointments.
    Preparing valuations and assessing applications for payment.
    Managing variations and change control.
    Preparing regular cost reports and forecasts.
    Monitoring project expenditure against agreed budgets.
    Assessing and negotiating final accounts.
    Attending client, design team and project meetings.
    Working closely with architects, engineers, contractors and other consultants.
    Identifying commercial risks and opportunities throughout project delivery.
    Maintaining accurate project and commercial documentation.
    Developing and maintaining strong relationships with clients and project stakeholders. About You
    We are looking for a commercially minded Quantity Surveyor / Cost Consultant who is confident working within a consultancy environment and keen to continue developing their career.
     
    You will ideally have:

    A relevant degree in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management or a related construction discipline - essential.
    Previous Quantity Surveying or Cost Consultancy experience.
    Experience working within a construction consultancy would be highly advantageous.
    A good understanding of pre- and post-contract Quantity Surveying duties.
    Experience with cost planning, tendering, valuations, variations and final accounts.
    Strong commercial and numerical skills.
    Good knowledge of construction contracts and procurement.
    Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    Strong organisation and attention to detail.
    The confidence to communicate effectively with clients, contractors and consultants.
    The ability to manage your own workload and multiple project priorities.
