How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Solar PV Designer

    Hybrid | Full-Time | Commercial & Industrial Solar PV

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced System Architect / Solar PV Designer to join a growing organisation operating within the commercial renewable energy and energy-efficiency sector.

Our client is an established business delivering large-scale energy and decarbonisation projects across the UK. As its Commercial & Industrial Solar PV offering continues to grow, they are strengthening the design function and are looking for someone with strong AutoCAD and C&I Solar PV experience to join the team.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys the detailed, technical side of solar design but also wants to work closely with Electrical and Mechanical Engineers and project delivery teams to ensure designs are practical, compliant and ready for installation.

    The Role

Reporting into the Systems Design Lead, you'll be responsible for producing accurate technical drawings and system architecture for commercial Solar PV projects, supporting projects from initial survey information through design, construction and ultimately handover.

You'll work collaboratively across Design and Operations, giving you exposure to the full project lifecycle rather than simply producing drawings in isolation.

    Key responsibilities will include:

    • Producing Solar PV layouts, roof plans, elevations, equipment layouts and construction drawings using AutoCAD
    • Creating system architecture drawings, single-line diagrams and supporting technical documentation
    • Producing drawings for planning and client submissions
    • Reviewing site surveys, photographs, drone imagery and existing drawings to develop accurate designs
    • Working with Electrical Design Engineers to optimise panel layouts, string configurations and cable routes
    • Collaborating with Mechanical Design Engineers around mounting and installation solutions
    • Ensuring designs meet relevant legislation, technical standards and internal requirements
    • Managing drawing revisions and technical documentation throughout the project lifecycle
    • Supporting Operations and installation teams with technical queries during project delivery
    • Preparing drawings and documentation for handover and commissioning
    • Contributing to the continued improvement of CAD standards, templates and drawing libraries

    What We're Looking For

We're particularly interested in speaking with people who have:

    • Previous experience designing Commercial & Industrial Solar PV systems
    • Strong AutoCAD capability and experience producing detailed technical drawings
    • A good practical understanding of Solar PV systems and installation
    • Experience producing planning, construction and installation drawings
    • The ability to confidently interpret architectural, structural and engineering drawings
    • Strong attention to detail and technical accuracy
    • The ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously
    • A collaborative approach and confidence working across different engineering and operational teams

Experience with any of the following would also be advantageous:

PVsyst | SolarEdge Designer | SLDs | G98/G99 | DNO Applications | Rooftop Structures | Solar Mounting Systems | BESS | EV Charging | CDM

    Why Consider It?

This is an opportunity to join an established and growing energy business at an exciting stage in the development of its Commercial Solar PV offering.

Rather than simply joining as another CAD resource, you'll have the opportunity to work closely with the wider engineering and operations teams, contribute to the development of design standards and processes, and play a meaningful role in how projects are designed and delivered as the solar division continues to grow.

If you're currently working within C&I Solar PV design and would be interested in hearing more, please get in touch for a confidential conversation.
