How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

Ready to take your procurement career to the next level? Influence £1bn+ of spend and play a pivotal role in building a world-class procurement function???

    Category Manager, Indirect Procurement

Hybrid - minimum 3 days per week on site in the Midlands

    Competitive salary + package

W Talent is supporting a well-established, multi-site organisation in the appointment of a Category Manager to join its central procurement function.

This is an excellent opportunity for a procurement professional looking to develop their career within a complex organisation, working across a broad range of indirect goods and services and delivering measurable commercial value.

    The Role

You will play a key role in developing and delivering sourcing and category strategies across allocated spend categories.

You will manage procurement activity from understanding business requirements and assessing market opportunities through to tender, negotiation, implementation, and supplier handover. The role is highly stakeholder-focused, requiring you to work closely with senior and operational colleagues across the organisation.

    About You

We are looking for a commercially minded procurement professional with proven experience in indirect procurement. Ideally with exposure to structured tendering, supplier negotiations and category planning.

    You will need to demonstrate:

Experience delivering sourcing projects and structured tender processes.
Experience developing tender documentation, specifications and KPIs.
    Strong negotiation and commercial skills.
Experience managing multiple procurement projects against tight deadlines.
Understanding of contract negotiation and engagement with Legal teams.
Experience using eProcurement and data analysis tools, including intermediate Excel.
Experience contributing to strategic category plans.
A proactive approach to identifying new procurement opportunities.
CIPS Level 4, or actively working towards it, would be desirable.

    Why Apply?

This is an excellent opportunity to join a sophisticated procurement environment with significant exposure to category management, strategic sourcing, commercial negotiation, and senior stakeholder management.

If you are an ambitious procurement professional looking for the next step in your career and want genuine ownership of categories and commercial outcomes, we would like to hear from you.
