An exciting opportunity has arisen for a hands-on Buyer / Estimator to join a growing manufacturing business. This is a varied role combining purchasing and estimating, giving you the opportunity to manage the process from initial customer costing through to procurement and supplier management.
Working closely with Engineering, Sales and suppliers, you will be responsible for sourcing materials, analysing BOMs and drawings, preparing customer pricing and ensuring components are available to support production.
Duties of a Buyer / Estimator:
• Manage purchasing activities across a range of manufacturing components
• Review BOMs, drawings and technical specifications to establish material requirements
• Source competitive pricing and prepare accurate customer quotations
• Place and manage purchase orders, monitoring supplier delivery and performance
• Identify potential supply risks including lead times, MOQs and obsolete components
• Develop and maintain strong supplier relationships
• Support NPI and prototype projects through to production
• Maintain accurate supplier, pricing and lead-time information within the ERP system
• Work closely with Engineering and Sales to ensure accurate costing and smooth order handovers
• Monitor purchasing performance, costs, stock availability and supplier delivery
What you need to apply for Buyer / Estimator:
• Previous experience within purchasing, procurement, buying or estimating
• Experience within a manufacturing environment would be advantageous
• Ability to read and understand BOMs, engineering drawings and technical specifications
• Experience using an ERP/MRP system and good knowledge of Microsoft Excel
• Strong attention to detail and analytical skills
• Excellent communication and supplier management skills
• Commercially aware with good negotiation skills
• Organised, proactive and able to manage multiple priorities
• A genuine willingness to learn and develop within a hybrid purchasing and estimating role
• Full UK driving licence
