How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    CNC Field Service Engineer

    Biggleswade / Field Based
    Up to £45,000 + Overtime + Bonus
    OTE circa £55,000 + Company Vehicle

    From installing the machine to keeping it running.

    We're recruiting a CNC Field Service Engineer for a growing machine-tool business supplying CNC Milling and Turning Centres to manufacturers across the UK.

    This is an opportunity to become the company's first dedicated Field Service Engineer, taking responsibility for the installation, commissioning, servicing and maintenance of a growing installed base of CNC machine tools.

    With almost 100 machines already installed across the UK and ambitious plans for further growth, this is a role that offers considerably more than simply attending breakdowns.

    You'll have the opportunity to help shape the service function from an early stage - with the potential to develop into a Service Manager position as the business continues to expand.

    The Role

    You'll work with modern CNC Milling and Turning Centres, predominantly equipped with Siemens 828D controls.

    Your responsibilities will include:

    * Carrying out Pre-Delivery Inspections on new CNC machine tools

    * Installing and commissioning CNC Milling and Turning Centres at customer sites

    * Diagnosing mechanical, electrical and control-related faults

    * Carrying out breakdown repairs and planned maintenance

    * Supporting customers with machine-tool issues

    * Ensuring machines are correctly set up and operating as intended

    * Providing a professional technical service from initial installation throughout the machine's working life

    * Working closely with the company's directors and customers to resolve technical issues

    * Travelling throughout the UK to customer sites

    The role will involve regular UK travel and overnight stays when required.

    What We're Looking For

    You'll need a strong practical understanding of CNC machine tools and the confidence to diagnose problems rather than simply replace parts.

    Your experience could have been gained as a:

    CNC Field Service Engineer · Machine Tool Service Engineer · Maintenance Engineer · Commissioning Engineer · CNC Engineer

    You'll ideally bring experience in:

    * CNC Milling and/or Turning Centres

    * Machine-tool installation and commissioning

    * Mechanical fault finding

    * Electrical fault finding

    * CNC controls

    * Machine maintenance and repair

    * Working independently at customer sites

    Experience with Siemens 828D controls would be particularly valuable.

    Just as importantly, you'll need to be comfortable representing a growing business directly with its customers. You'll often be the person they rely on when a machine needs installing, servicing or getting back into production.

    That means technical ability needs to be matched by good communication, self-reliance and a genuine commitment to customer service.

    Why This Opportunity?

    The business was established by three engineers who began their own careers as CNC Machinists before moving into the machine-tool industry.

    Since launching, the company has grown rapidly and now has almost 100 CNC machines installed with customers across the UK.

    Until now, much of the engineering and service responsibility has been handled directly by the directors alongside external engineering support.

    The appointment of a dedicated Field Service Engineer represents the next stage of that growth.

    You'll therefore be joining at a point where you can have a genuine influence on how the service operation develops rather than becoming another engineer within a large established service department.

    As the installed machine base and engineering team grow, there is the potential for the position to develop towards Service Manager.

    Ideally, you'll live within approximately an hour's commute of Biggleswade, with Bedford, Cambridge, Stevenage, Luton and the surrounding areas all potentially well placed. The role itself is UK field based and will involve regular travel and overnight stays.

    If you're an experienced CNC or machine-tool engineer who wants more ownership, greater responsibility and the opportunity to grow with an ambitious business, apply now or contact Steve at Ion Tec for a confidential conversation.
