How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

Are you an experienced Teaching Assistant, academic tutor, or graduate passionate about closing attainment gaps and raising student confidence?

A high-performing secondary school in Preston, Lancashire is looking for a proactive 1:1 Mentoring & Intervention Teaching Assistant to support Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 (GCSE) students starting this September 2026.

In this targeted role, you will work closely with subject teachers and pastoral leads to deliver structured small-group booster sessions and individualized 1:1 interventions across core subjects and study skills.

    Position Details:

Job Title: Academic Intervention Assistant / 1:1 Student Mentor

Location: Preston, Lancashire (Easily commutable via M6, M55, and Preston Central Rail Station)

    Start Date: September 2026

Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM - 3:30 PM (Term-time only - 30 to 32.5 hours per week)

Pay Rate: £85.00 - £105.00+ per day (PAYE, based on qualification and experience)

Contract: Full-time, long-term for the 2026/27 academic year (Permanent contract pathways available)

    Key Responsibilities:

Targeted 1:1 Mentoring: Deliver structured one-to-one academic support and pastoral mentoring to secondary students needing extra guidance to reach their potential.

Small Group Interventions: Lead small focus groups (3-6 pupils) in core academic areas (English, Maths, and Science) to accelerate learning and consolidate lesson material.

GCSE Preparation: Assist Year 10 and Year 11 pupils with revision strategies, exam practice, time management, and study resilience.

SEND & SEMH Adaptation: Differentiate learning resources for pupils with additional needs, including ADHD, dyslexia, ASC, or anxiety-related learning barriers.

Progress Tracking: Monitor pupil progress, track attainment data, and provide feedback to class teachers, SENCOs, and heads of department.

    Ideal Candidate Profile:

Prior experience delivering academic interventions, tutoring, or 1:1 mentoring to secondary-aged youth (11-16).

High level of literacy and numeracy confidence to support GCSE-level curriculum content.

University degree (Psychology, English, Maths, Science, or Education-related) or Level 3 TA qualification is highly desirable.

Strong communication, active listening, and rapport-building skills.

Enhanced DBS certificate registered on the Update Service (or willingness to process one before September).

    Why Apply for This Role?

Focused Impact: Dedicated time away from whole-class disruption to deliver high-impact small group and 1:1 progress.

Ideal Teacher Training Route: Perfect foundation for aspiring secondary teachers looking to gain classroom and curriculum experience.

Sociable Schedule: Term-time only hours with evenings, weekends, and all 13 school holiday weeks off.

Help Preston secondary pupils achieve their full academic potential this year.
