How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

Are you passionate about guiding young people through their teenage years and removing barriers to learning?

A dynamic secondary school in Blackpool is recruiting a dedicated, empathetic Pupil Support Worker / Pastoral Mentor to join their student welfare and inclusion team starting this September 2026.

Whether you bring experience from secondary pastoral support, youth work, residential care, social care, or coaching, your ability to connect with 11-16 year olds, build trust, and manage complex behaviours with a calm approach will make an immediate impact.

    Position Overview:

Job Title: Secondary Pupil Support Worker / Behaviour & Pastoral Mentor

Location: Blackpool, Lancashire (Convenient access via M55, local rail, and Blackpool bus routes)

    Start Date: September 2026

Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM - 3:30 PM (Term-time only - 30 to 32.5 hours per week, no weekends or school holidays)

Pay Rate: £85.00 - £100.00+ per day (PAYE, based on experience and level)

Contract: Full-time, long-term for the 2026/27 academic year with permanent contract routes

    Key Responsibilities:

1-to-1 & Small Group Mentoring: Deliver targeted pastoral sessions to secondary students facing SEMH (Social, Emotional & Mental Health) challenges, anxiety, low attendance, or disengagement.

Classroom & Inclusion Support: Support pupils within mainstream classrooms and dedicated inclusion/pastoral suites to ensure they remain focused and engaged.

Positive De-escalation: Apply proactive behaviour management and de-escalation strategies to help students self-regulate during stressful moments.

Attendance & Welfare Tracking: Monitor daily student engagement, recognise early signs of distress, and log accurate safeguarding reports.

Multi-Agency Collaboration: Work closely with Heads of Year, Safeguarding Leads, SENCOs, and parents to deliver tailored support plans.

    Ideal Candidate Profile:

Prior experience supporting secondary-aged pupils (11-16) in schools, alternative provision, youth centres, or residential care settings.

Strong communication skills with an approachable, resilient, and non-judgemental manner.

Ability to set clear professional boundaries while building positive rapport with vulnerable youth.

De-escalation or positive handling training (e.g., Team Teach, CPI, MAPA) is advantageous, though not essential.

Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to process one prior to start).

    Why Apply for This Role?

Consistent Schedule: Enjoy sociable, weekday hours during term-time with 13 weeks of paid school holidays across the year.

Career Progression: Direct pathways into Pastoral Leadership, Safeguarding Officer roles, or full Teacher Training.

Community Impact: Play a pivotal role in raising aspirations for local Blackpool secondary students.

Make a genuine difference in Blackpool secondary education this academic year.
