How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

Position: Technical Superintendent - Dry Docking
    Job ID: 1613/14
    Location: Aberdeen
    Salary: Dependent on experience
    Employment Type: Permanent

HSB Technical Ltd is a specialist recruitment consultancy operating across the Power & Propulsion, Shipbuilding, Shipping & Maritime, Energy and Aerospace sectors. We support a wide range of businesses with permanent and contract recruitment throughout the UK and internationally.

We are currently recruiting for a Technical Superintendent with strong dry-docking experience to join a well-established and highly regarded maritime organisation based in Aberdeen.

The successful candidate will take responsibility for the technical management of assigned vessels, with a particular focus on planning, preparing and delivering dry-docking projects. You will ensure that each vessel remains safe, compliant, operational and maintained to the required technical and regulatory standards.

Duties and responsibilities of the Technical Superintendent:

Plan and manage vessel dry dockings from the initial scope of work and budget stage through to completion, sea trials and return to service.
Develop detailed dry-docking specifications, work packages, project schedules and cost estimates.
Liaise with shipyards, contractors, suppliers, class societies, flag authorities and internal stakeholders throughout each docking project.
Attend vessels and shipyards to oversee repairs, inspections, surveys, modifications and planned maintenance activities.
Monitor dry-docking progress, expenditure, quality and timescales, ensuring that any technical or commercial issues are addressed quickly.
Manage technical budgets for assigned vessels and ensure expenditure is properly controlled and reported.
Ensure planned vessel inspections are completed and vessels are fully prepared for class, flag and statutory surveys.
Oversee mechanical, electrical and navigational equipment repairs, maintenance and upgrades.
Provide practical technical support to vessel crews and shore-based teams, including fault-finding and the resolution of operational issues.
Ensure all work is completed in accordance with company procedures, industry regulations and the required safety and quality standards. Qualifications and requirements:

Previous shoreside experience as a Technical Superintendent, Dry Docking Superintendent, Project Superintendent or in a similar technical vessel-management role.
Strong, demonstrable experience of planning and delivering vessel dry dockings, major refits, repairs or conversion projects.
A seagoing engineering background to Second Engineer or Chief Engineer level would be advantageous; however, candidates with extensive ship repair or shipyard experience will also be considered.
Good knowledge of vessel mechanical and electrical systems, planned maintenance, class requirements and statutory regulations.
Additional electrical engineering experience and the ability to interpret electrical drawings would be highly advantageous.
Strong commercial awareness, including experience managing project budgets, contractors and suppliers.
A practical problem-solver who can make effective decisions in demanding, time-sensitive environments.
Excellent communication, organisation and report-writing skills.
Willingness to travel to vessels and shipyards when required.
Applicants must have the immediate right to live and work in the UK. This vacancy is being advertised by HSB Technical Ltd, which has been appointed to act as the recruitment consultancy for this position
