How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Architectural Technologist - Manchester
    (£40,000 - £47,000)
Manchester | Hybrid Working | Competitive Salary + Excellent Benefits

We are working with a highly regarded and growing multi-disciplinary architecture and building consultancy to recruit an experienced Architectural Technologist for its Manchester team.
This represents an excellent opportunity for someone who wants to be part of a consultancy where their technical skills, ideas and professional opinion genuinely matter.

Our client has an impressive and growing portfolio of public realm and public-sector clients, providing exposure to projects across areas such as education, healthcare, government and wider civic and community environments.

The work is varied, technically interesting and, importantly, meaningful - contributing to buildings and environments that are used by communities and public services every day.

    The Opportunity

We are particularly interested in speaking with Architectural Technologists who want more than simply their next project.
This is a growing consultancy where good people can make a visible contribution to the development of the team and the wider business. You will work alongside experienced architectural, surveying and construction professionals, while having the opportunity to bring your own ideas and technical perspective to projects.

Rather than becoming a small part of a very large delivery structure, you will have the opportunity to take ownership, influence outcomes and develop your position as the consultancy continues to grow.

You will be involved across projects from design development through technical delivery and construction, working closely with clients, consultants, contractors and other specialists.

    Your Experience

    Ideally, you will offer:
    • A degree in Architectural Technology or a closely related discipline
    • CIAT qualification or progression towards professional membership
    • Approximately 3+ years' post-qualification experience within a UK architectural practice or consultancy
    • Strong knowledge of construction technology and technical detailing
    • Good working knowledge of Autodesk Revit
    • Experience producing coordinated technical design and construction information
    • Understanding of UK Building Regulations, relevant British Standards and Codes of Practice
    • Experience or an interest in working across public-sector and public-realm projects
    • An appreciation of statutory submissions, including Planning and Building Regulations
    • Good commercial and contractual awareness
    • Strong organisational and project coordination skills
    • Excellent written, verbal and graphical communication skills
    • The confidence to contribute ideas and professional opinions as part of a collaborative team

    Key Responsibilities

    Your responsibilities will include:

    • Working collaboratively within multi-disciplinary project teams
    • Developing project briefs into coordinated technical designs in accordance with the RIBA Plan of Work
    • Producing high-quality construction detailing and technically robust design solutions
    • Preparing and coordinating technical information throughout the design and construction process
    • Ensuring designs comply with relevant legislation, Building Regulations, British Standards and recognised Codes of Practice
    • Advising on materials, specifications, durability and sustainable design considerations
    • Preparing and coordinating project specifications
    • Supporting project teams with cost awareness and value-engineering exercises
    • Participating in project reviews, design meetings and coordination workshops
    • Reviewing and checking technical information prior to formal issue
    • Supporting Planning, Building Regulations and other statutory submissions
    • Liaising with statutory authorities where required
    • Attending meetings with clients, consultants, contractors and specialist suppliers
    • Supporting contractors with technical and design-related queries during construction
    • Assisting Project Leads with design risk management and coordination
    • Maintaining accurate project and document-control information

    Why Consider This Opportunity?

There are several things that make this opportunity particularly attractive.
Firstly, the work. You will gain exposure to a strong portfolio of public realm clients and projects where the end result has a genuine purpose. These are buildings and environments that support education, healthcare, government and communities.

Secondly, the opportunity to influence. This is a growing consultancy where individuals are encouraged to contribute. Your technical knowledge, ideas and opinions will be valued, and you will have the opportunity to help shape project outcomes rather than simply deliver a predetermined package of work.

Finally, the longer-term opportunity. As the Manchester team and wider consultancy continue to develop, there is genuine scope for the successful individual to grow with the business, broaden their responsibilities and become an increasingly important member of the team.
For an Architectural Technologist who enjoys technically interesting work but also wants visibility, responsibility and a genuine voice within their organisation, this is an opportunity well worth exploring.

    Package & Benefits

    The successful candidate can expect:
    • Competitive salary, dependent upon experience
    • Hybrid working
    • 25 days' annual leave plus public holidays, increasing with service
    • Support with career progression, professional education and development
    • Paid professional memberships
    • Health cash plan / Critical illness cover / Life assurance
    • Discretionary bonus scheme
    • Cycle to Work scheme

    Interested?

If you are an Architectural Technologist based in Manchester or the wider North West and would be interested in understanding more, we would welcome a confidential initial conversation.

You do not need to be actively looking for a new position. We are happy to explain the consultancy, its Manchester team, the public realm project portfolio and the longer-term opportunity before you decide whether you would like to take matters any further.

Applications should ideally include an up-to-date CV and, where available, examples or a portfolio of recent technical and project work.

All enquiries will be treated in the strictest confidence.
