How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Electrical Design Engineer – Power Systems

    Location: Wigan
    Salary: £50,000 – £55,000 + Excellent Benefits

    We are recruiting on behalf of a successful British manufacturer of specialist power systems and electrical infrastructure solutions, as they continue an exciting period of growth.

    From its beginnings as a small R&D business around 35 years ago, they have developed into a thriving engineering and manufacturing company delivering increasingly large, prestigious and technically challenging projects for major commercial, industrial and utility clients across the UK.

    Despite that growth, the business has retained its family-orientated culture. People matter, individual contribution is recognised and you are not simply another number within a large corporate engineering department.

    This is a key appointment for an experienced Electrical Design Engineer / Power Systems Design Engineer who can develop high-level electrical design schemes, solve complex technical problems and take ownership of bespoke engineering solutions.

    The Role

    Working closely with customers, projects, sales and manufacturing teams, you will:

    * Develop high-level electrical and power system design schemes.

    * Translate customer specifications into practical engineering solutions.

    * Design power generation, distribution and control systems.

    * Carry out system sizing, equipment selection and electrical calculations.

    * Produce schematics, technical drawings, specifications and BOMs.

    * Solve complex technical and design challenges on bespoke projects.

    * Support projects through manufacture, installation and commissioning.

    * Ensure designs comply with relevant BS, EN and IEC standards.

    * Contribute to increasingly complex utility, infrastructure and substation-related projects.

    About You

    You will be a strong electrical design engineer who can think at a systems level, rather than simply designing individual components.

    Experience within any of the following areas would be particularly relevant:

    * Power generation or electrical distribution

    * Switchgear

    * Generators

    * UPS / critical power

    * Battery systems

    * Rectifiers and inverters

    * ATS systems

    * Electrical control equipment and enclosures

    * Substations, utilities or DNO projects

    You do not need experience across every area. They are equally interested in engineers with strong transferable electrical design skills, excellent problem-solving ability and the capability to develop complete system solutions.

    An HNC/HND or Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline is preferred.

    Why Join this fast growing SME?

    This is an opportunity to join an established British manufacturer at an important stage of its growth.

    You will work on larger clients, bigger projects and increasingly technically challenging engineering solutions, while retaining the visibility, influence and personal environment of a smaller business.

    They design and manufacture its solutions under one roof in Wigan, giving engineers the opportunity to see projects develop from initial concept through design, manufacture and ultimately installation.

    Salary & Benefits

    * £50,000 – £55,000 basic salary

    * 25 days holiday + bank holidays

    * Private medical cover

    * Company pension

    * Life assurance

    * Company sick pay

    * Cycle to work scheme

    * On-site parking

    * Excellent long-term career and development opportunities

    This would suit an engineer who enjoys technical problem-solving, ownership and seeing their designs become real engineered solutions, while working within a supportive business where people genuinely matter
