How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    About the Role

Teach Now is seeking a SEN Teaching Assistant with strong Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN) experience for a supportive secondary-school setting in Hertfordshire.

The successful candidate will work with students whose communication needs may affect their confidence, social interaction, understanding of instructions or ability to access the curriculum independently.

You will work alongside teachers and the school’s SEND team, supporting strategies recommended by speech and language professionals and helping students develop the communication skills they need both academically and socially.

    Your Role Will Include

Providing 1:1 and small-group support for students with SLCN.

Reinforcing communication programmes and strategies used by the school.

Breaking down instructions and curriculum language into accessible steps.

Supporting vocabulary, comprehension and expressive language.

Using visual supports, modelling and structured communication techniques where appropriate.

Helping students build confidence when speaking and participating in lessons.

Recording progress and feeding back to SEN staff.

Supporting students across different curriculum subjects.

    Requirements

Experience supporting children or young people with speech, language or communication needs.

Previous secondary-school or SEND experience is highly desirable.

    Excellent spoken and written communication.

Knowledge of visual communication strategies, Makaton or similar approaches would be advantageous.

Ability to work sensitively and patiently with young people.

Enhanced DBS and right to work in the UK.

    The School Can Offer

Close collaboration with an experienced SEND team.

Structured intervention programmes and clear student support plans.

Opportunities to develop specialist SEN experience.

Supportive teachers who value the contribution of support staff.

    Professional development throughout the placement.

Salary is dependent on experience and qualifications.
