How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Junior Electrical Engineer

    Location: Bristol Area
    Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience
    Job Type: Permanent
Department: Building Services / Electrical Engineering

    The Opportunity

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Junior Electrical Engineer to join an established and growing building services consultancy based in the Bristol area.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone at the beginning of their engineering career who is looking to develop within building services design and consultancy.

The position would suit a range of backgrounds. You could be a recent college leaver, a graduate looking to start your career in building services, an electrical technician looking to move into design, or an electrician/site-based professional who wants to transfer their practical experience into a consultancy environment.

You don't need to have years of consultancy experience. What's most important is a genuine interest in electrical engineering, a willingness to learn and the ambition to develop your technical skills.

You will work alongside experienced Mechanical, Electrical and Building Services professionals, gaining exposure to the design and delivery of electrical systems across a varied portfolio of projects.

    About the Company

The business is an established building services and sustainability consultancy with a strong presence across the South West and South Wales.

The team delivers practical, energy-efficient and sustainable engineering solutions across a wide range of sectors, including commercial, education, healthcare, residential, industrial, defence, rail and public buildings.

The consultancy places significant emphasis on technical development, collaboration, sustainability and modern digital design, including BIM and Revit-based delivery.

    The Role

As a Junior Electrical Engineer, you will support the wider electrical engineering team in developing building services designs from initial concepts through to detailed design and project delivery.

You will receive support and mentoring from experienced engineers while progressively taking on greater responsibility as your knowledge and confidence develop.

    Your responsibilities may include:

Supporting the design of electrical building services systems
Assisting with electrical calculations and technical assessments
Supporting the design of LV distribution and containment systems
Assisting with lighting and emergency lighting design
Supporting small power and electrical services design
Assisting with fire alarm, data, security and other specialist electrical systems
Supporting the preparation of technical drawings and documentation
Developing and maintaining electrical models and drawings using Revit and/or AutoCAD
Working with engineers and technicians from other disciplines to coordinate building services
Attending project and design meetings where appropriate
Carrying out site visits and surveys to develop practical understanding of building services
Learning and applying relevant British Standards, Building Regulations and industry guidance
Supporting senior engineers with project delivery and technical documentation
Developing your understanding of sustainable and energy-efficient electrical design
    Who Are We Looking For?

This role is intentionally open to candidates from a variety of backgrounds.

    You may be:

A college leaver with an electrical/electronic engineering qualification
A recent graduate with a degree in Electrical Engineering, Building Services Engineering or a related subject
An electrical engineering technician looking to progress into design
An electrician or electrical supervisor looking to move from site into consultancy
Someone with experience in electrical installation who wants to develop their design and engineering knowledge
An apprentice or junior engineer looking for the next stage of their career
    Ideally, you will have:

A genuine interest in electrical engineering and building services
A relevant electrical or engineering qualification, or demonstrable practical experience
    Good mathematical and technical aptitude
An eagerness to learn and develop
    Good attention to detail
The ability to work effectively as part of a team
    Good communication skills
A practical and methodical approach to problem solving
Previous building services consultancy experience is desirable but not essential.

For candidates coming from an electrical site background, your practical understanding of installations, electrical systems, drawings and how buildings are constructed could provide an excellent foundation for moving into consultancy.

    What You'll Gain

This role offers the opportunity to build a long-term career within building services engineering.

You will receive exposure to a broad range of projects and electrical systems while working alongside experienced engineers who can support your technical development.

Over time, you will have the opportunity to develop towards greater responsibility in electrical design, project delivery and client interaction, with a clear pathway to progress within the consultancy.

You will also gain experience with modern design and BIM technologies, including Revit, alongside developing your understanding of current electrical standards, regulations and sustainable design principles.
