How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Project Quantity Surveyor – Industrial & Distribution Projects – Hertfordshire

    Salary/Package: £60,000 – £70,000 + Mileage + Pension + Private Medical + Half Day Friday

    O’Neill and Brennan are currently working with a well-established principal contractor who are looking to appoint an experienced Project Quantity Surveyor to join their growing commercial team, working across a number of industrial and distribution centre projects throughout Hertfordshire.

    The successful candidate will take commercial responsibility for projects valued up to approximately £15m, with particular responsibility for procuring and commercially managing their own subcontract packages from tender through to final account.

    This is a fast-paced environment with a high volume of activity, so the successful candidate will need to be comfortable managing multiple commercial requirements and working to tight deadlines while maintaining strong commercial control.

    Steel frame experience is not essential, and the client would also consider candidates from a strong principal contracting background who are willing to adapt to the industrial and distribution sector.

    Responsibilities:

    Taking commercial responsibility for industrial and distribution centre projects up to £15m
    Procuring and commercially managing all subcontract packages from tender through to final account
    Preparing subcontract enquiries, tender analysis, negotiations and recommendations for award
    Managing subcontractor payments, valuations, variations and final accounts
    Monitoring project costs, forecasting expenditure and maintaining accurate commercial reporting
    Identifying commercial risks and opportunities and implementing appropriate cost control measures
    Working at pace across multiple commercial requirements and project stages
    Working closely with project managers, construction teams, design teams and clients to ensure successful project delivery
    Building and maintaining strong relationships with subcontractors, suppliers, consultants and clients
    Taking ownership of the commercial delivery of projects and ensuring packages are procured efficiently and effectively
    Requirements:

    Proven experience working as a Quantity Surveyor/Project Quantity Surveyor within a principal or main contracting environment
    Experience procuring and commercially managing subcontract packages through to final account
    Experience working on projects up to £15m
    Strong commercial awareness with excellent negotiation and communication skills
    Comfortable working within a fast-paced environment with quick project workflows
    Industrial, distribution or steel frame experience would be advantageous but is not essential
    Strong principal contracting experience will also be considered, provided candidates are willing to adapt to this type of work
    Ability to operate autonomously while working effectively as part of a wider project team
