How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Join our Metals team and help deliver high‑quality regulatory analysis across water, waste and environmental samples. With growing requirements, we’re looking for a motivated team leader ready to step up and make an impact.

    You’ll manage five analysts and oversee ICP‑OES, Radiochemistry and Fluoride testing for Thames Water. Your day will include planning workloads, keeping equipment running smoothly, authorising results and maintaining ISO17025 DWTS and MCERTS standards. You’ll also support your team’s development and help shape the future of the department.

    What you’ll be doing as a Laboratory Team Leader Metals

    Use your excellent communication skills to manage all people aspects of your team & work as a key member of the Metals Leadership team & wider Metals Testing team.
    Coordinate resources including analytical instrumentation and materials to analyse samples and report test results.
    Use your knowledge in ICP-OES to train and help the team troubleshoot issues as they arise.
    Use your understanding of our regulatory requirements and ISO17025 DWTS and MCERTS standards in the management of the analytical methods.
    Ensure compliance with the DWI ‘competent person’ guidance.
    Maintain our excellent record of H+S performance and compliance.Working hours: 36 hours per week – 9-5 Monday – Friday with some Saturday on rota when trained

    What you should bring to the role

    Have a degree-level in science, though candidates with extensive experience in analytical chemistry would be considered.
    Have experience in running and maintaining ICP-OES, or other similar analytical systems.
    A strong understanding and experience in quality control and assurance processes in a laboratory setting.
    Possess a sense of drive and determination to learn new job responsibilities.What’s in it for you?
