How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Senior Structural Engineer

    Location: London
    Rate: £40-£50 per hour
Arrangement: Typically 3 days per week in the office, with flexibility when attending site

Are you a Structural Engineer with experience inspecting existing buildings and producing clear, technically detailed reports?

We're looking to speak with Structural Engineers to support a varied portfolio of building structures work, with a particular focus on structural inspections, assessments and reporting.

The majority of the workload will involve attending properties, reviewing their structural condition, identifying defects or areas of concern and producing technical reports outlining findings and appropriate recommendations. There will also be involvement in structural design work and calculations where required.

Projects cover a range of commercial and building structures, including work associated with the ongoing assessment and safety of existing buildings. This may include higher-rise properties where an understanding of structural robustness, building construction and the potential consequences of localised structural failure will be beneficial.

The role is London based and operates on a hybrid basis. The usual expectation is around three days per week in the office; however, engineers attending site would not also be expected to travel into the office unnecessarily.

    Key Responsibilities

·Undertake structural inspections and assessments of existing buildings and properties.
·Inspect structural elements, identify defects and assess areas of potential structural concern.
·Produce clear and technically robust inspection, assessment and condition reports.
·Provide practical engineering recommendations, including advice on potential causes of defects and appropriate remedial measures.
·Carry out desk-based technical reviews alongside physical site inspections.
·Consider structural integrity, stability and robustness when assessing existing buildings.
·Undertake structural design, assessments and engineering calculations where required.
·Prepare and review technical information including calculations, specifications, schedules and drawings.
·Work across a variety of structural materials, building types and construction methods.
·Apply relevant Eurocodes, British Standards, Building Regulations and current engineering guidance.
·Use TEDDS, Tekla and other structural analysis and design software as appropriate to the project.
·Liaise with clients, contractors and other project stakeholders regarding findings and technical recommendations.
·Provide wider technical support across commercial and building structures projects.

    About You

·Structural Engineer, Senior Structural Engineer or a particularly strong graduate-level Structural Engineer with suitable technical capability.
·Previous experience inspecting buildings and assessing structural condition is highly desirable.
·Able to identify structural defects and communicate their significance clearly.
·Confident producing high-quality written structural reports and recommendations.
·Experience of structural design and engineering calculations.
·Good understanding of building construction and the behaviour of common structural materials.
·Knowledge of structural stability, robustness and progressive collapse principles would be beneficial, particularly when working with larger or higher-rise buildings.
·Familiar with relevant Eurocodes, British Standards and Building Regulations.
·Working knowledge of TEDDS, with experience using Tekla and other structural engineering software.
·Comfortable working independently when undertaking inspections and preparing subsequent technical advice.
·Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Previous examples of structural inspection or engineering reports would be welcomed alongside CVs, where confidentiality permits.
