How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    The Opportunity

We are recruiting on behalf of an established and growing accountancy practice in Ferndown looking for an experienced Practice Accountant to step into a Client Director / Senior Accountant position.

This is a client-facing role combining portfolio management, accounts and tax review, team supervision and business development. It would suit an experienced practice professional who is confident managing their own clients and is ready to take greater responsibility for a small team.

You'll have ownership of a portfolio of clients, ensuring deadlines and service standards are achieved while acting as a trusted point of contact for your clients.

    Key Responsibilities

Take responsibility for and manage a portfolio of clients.
Build strong relationships and act as a key point of contact for clients.
Manage day-to-day client requirements, queries and deadlines.
Attend meetings with prospective clients and prepare quotations for services.
Review statutory accounts and Corporation Tax computations.
Oversee the timely preparation and submission of accounts and VAT returns.
Allocate incoming work across the accounting team and manage workloads.
Supervise, support and train junior team members.
Provide guidance across bookkeeping, VAT and accounts production.
Monitor deadlines and ensure client work is completed accurately and on time.
Monitor internal service levels and report on performance.
Identify opportunities to provide additional services and support to existing clients.

    About You

    We're looking for someone with:

A minimum of 3 years' experience within an accountancy practice.
Strong accounts preparation and review experience.
A good working knowledge of UK taxation, VAT and Corporation Tax.
Previous experience managing your own portfolio of clients.
Confidence dealing directly with clients and providing a high level of service.
Experience supervising, mentoring or developing junior members of staff.
The ability to manage workloads and competing deadlines.
Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
    Excellent communication and organisational skills.
    A proactive, commercially minded approach.
You may be AAT, ACCA or ACA qualified or part-qualified, although strong relevant practice experience will be particularly important.

    What's on Offer?

    £32,500 basic salary + commission.
    OTE up to £45,000.
25 days' holiday plus bank holidays.
Option to buy and sell annual leave.
Study support and continued professional development.
    Company pension.
Genuine opportunities for further career progression.
Free financial advice covering pensions, mortgages and investments.
    Staff incentives.
    Discounted gym membership.
    Cycle-to-work scheme.
    On-site parking.
Regular company events and social activities.
Additional staff benefits, including monthly lunches and weekly breakfast.

    Who Could This Suit?

This could be an excellent progression opportunity for an experienced Senior Accountant, Client Manager, Accounts Senior, Portfolio Manager or Practice Accountant who is ready to take greater ownership of clients and people.

You don't necessarily need to already hold a Client Director title – if you have strong practice experience, can confidently manage a portfolio and are ready to take the next step, we'd be keen to hear from you.
