How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    We are looking for a Shift Manager to work on a permanent basis in St Helens.

    The role is working 4 on, 4 off - 2x 12 hour days and 2x 12 hours nights.

    Salary is c£38-45,000 per annum plus 22 days holiday, pension etc.

    About the Shift Manager role:

    Working within a modern manufacturing facility, you will take responsibility for the day-to-day performance of production during your shift. You will lead a team of production operators, ensure manufacturing targets are achieved and maintain high standards across safety, quality, productivity and efficiency.

    This position would suit an experienced production or manufacturing leader who has worked within plastics, vacuum forming or FMCG manufacturing and is confident managing people and production performance in a fast-paced environment.

    Responsibilities for the Shift Manager:

    Team & Shift Management

    *

    Lead, support and develop a team of production operators and manufacturing personnel.

    *

    Organise labour and allocate resources effectively to meet production requirements.

    *

    Monitor attendance, performance, productivity and overall team effectiveness.

    *

    Provide coaching, training and development to team members.

    *

    Help build a positive, accountable and performance-focused working environment.

    *

    Support recruitment and onboarding of new employees where required.

    Production & Performance

    *

    Take ownership of production performance throughout the shift.

    *

    Ensure agreed output, efficiency and production targets are consistently achieved.

    *

    Monitor equipment performance, downtime and production output.

    *

    Identify and resolve operational issues quickly to minimise disruption.

    *

    Work closely with Engineering and Maintenance to address equipment problems.

    *

    Assist with optimising machine settings and processes to improve efficiency and product quality.

    *

    Maintain accurate shift records and production reports.

    *

    Monitor and report against key production KPIs.

    *

    Use the company's ERP/MRP system to record and manage relevant production information.

    Quality

    *

    Ensure finished products meet required customer and internal quality standards.

    *

    Carry out and oversee routine quality checks during production.

    *

    Investigate quality issues and ensure appropriate corrective action is taken.

    *

    Maintain accurate production and quality records.

    *

    Promote a right-first-time approach throughout the shift.

    Health, Safety & Compliance

    *

    Take an active role in maintaining a strong health and safety culture.

    *

    Ensure all team members follow company procedures and safe working practices.

    *

    Conduct toolbox talks and shift safety briefings as required.

    *

    Report and investigate accidents, incidents and near misses.

    *

    Ensure appropriate corrective and preventative actions are implemented.

    *

    Maintain compliance with relevant company procedures and industry requirements.

    Communication & Continuous Improvement

    Work collaboratively with other Shift Managers and the Production, Engineering and Quality functions.

    Communicate production performance, issues and priorities effectively across the business.

    Ensure effective handovers between shifts.

    Contribute to continuous improvement projects and initiatives.

    Identify opportunities to improve productivity, efficiency, quality and working practices.

    The successful Shift Manager will ideally have:

    Previous experience as a Shift Manager, Production Manager, Manufacturing Supervisor or similar.

    Experience within vacuum forming, plastics manufacturing or FMCG production.

    Proven experience leading and developing production teams.

    Strong understanding of production KPIs and operational performance.

    Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills.

    Good IT capability, including Microsoft Office and ERP/MRP systems.

    Strong organisational skills and the ability to prioritise effectively.

    A proactive, hands-on approach to production management.
