How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Policy Officer – Suffolk Chamber of Commerce, the largest independent business organisation in the county, is looking for an enthusiastic and ambitious Policy Officer to join their growing policy and public affairs team. This is a full time (37.5 hours per week), permanent position, based in Ipswich, Suffolk with opportunities for hybrid working.

    Please note: part-time hours will be considered for this position.

    About the Role

    This is an exciting opportunity for someone looking to build a career in policy, politics and public affairs. Working closely with the Policy Manager, the Policy Officer will help represent the voice of Suffolk's businesses through policy research, stakeholder engagement and projects that influence local, regional and national decision-making.

    Duties include:

    Conduct research and analysis on policy issues affecting businesses across Suffolk and the wider East of England
    Monitor policy and legislative developments and help shape Suffolk Chamber's lobbying and campaigning activity
    Prepare consultation responses, policy briefings, reports and communications
    Co-ordinate policy forums and business roundtables
    Support engagement with MPs, local authorities and key stakeholders.

    About You

    As our Policy Officer, you will be passionate about how policy decisions shape economic growth, communities and business success; you'll ideally have:

    Proven policy research and analytical skills, with the ability to analyse, interpret and communicate complex information and draw evidence-based conclusions
    A strong interest in politics, policy development, local government and economic growth
    Ability to create credible, high quality written and verbal outputs from gathered information including briefings and reports
