How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

UAS Remote Pilot (249jc) – UK / International Deployments - Up to £48,000 + Benefits

Ex-Mil Recruitment has been asked to recruit an experienced UAS Remote Pilot for a rapidly expanding organisation operating at the forefront of unmanned aviation, defence and security.

DUE TO THE NATURE OF THIS RECRUITMENT CONSULTANCY, WE ARE ONLY ABLE TO REPRESENT INDIVIDUALS WHO ARE EX MILITARY.

This is an unusual and potentially very interesting opportunity for someone with a military flying, UAS, aviation or instructional background who wants to remain close to operational flying while moving into the rapidly developing unmanned aviation sector.

The position will involve frequent deployments to customer locations within the UK, Europe, Portugal and the United States, so candidates must be comfortable with a significant amount of international travel.

When not deployed, you will normally be required to work a minimum of three days per week in South West England.

    The Role

As a UAS Remote Pilot, you will play an important role in the safe and effective delivery of UAS operations.

Working alongside the Remote Pilot in Command (RPIC) and wider operational team, you will monitor flight operations, identify and mitigate hazards, carry out real-time interventions when required and ensure operations remain compliant with relevant aviation regulations and standards.

    Your responsibilities will include:

    - Supporting the RPIC in delivering safe and compliant UAS operations

    - Monitoring live flight operations

    - Assisting with flight planning and mission preparation

    - Conducting and supporting pre-flight inspections

    - Supporting post-flight debriefings

    - Maintaining accurate flight, incident and safety records

    - Ensuring operations comply with relevant aviation regulations

    - Monitoring and enforcing operational safety procedures

    - Providing guidance during system failures or unexpected operational hazards

    - Training and mentoring UAS operators

    - Supporting risk mitigation and operational best practice

    - Maintaining your own flying currency and competency on allocated UAS platforms

    - Providing operational feedback to engineering and development teams

    Candidate Profile

This position could be particularly suited to someone coming from a military aviation environment, especially those who have experience of operational flying, UAS platforms, flight instruction or aviation operations.

You will need a good understanding of aviation principles, including:

    - Ground School

    - Meteorology

    - Airspace

    - Flight planning

    - Aviation safety

    - Operational risk management

Experience flying either manned or unmanned aircraft would be highly desirable.

Relevant qualifications or experience may include:

    - A1 and A3 CAA/EASA Certificates

    - A2 Certificate of Competence

    - LAPL, PPL, HPL or other Pilot Licence

    - Flight Radiotelephony Operator's Licence

    - Engineering Licence

    - MALE/HALE UAS platform qualifications

    - MUAS qualifications

    - Previous experience flying MUAS or MALE platforms

Experience on platforms such as Puma, Desert Hawk, Raven, Stalker or comparable military UAS systems would be particularly relevant.

This is a role where previous military experience could translate extremely well.

We would be particularly interested in speaking with former or transitioning personnel from the RAF | Army Air Corps | Royal Navy | Royal Artillery | REME

    Potential backgrounds could include:

UAS Pilots & Operators | Military Pilots | Aircrew | Flying Instructors | UAS Instructors | Aviation Specialists | Flight Operations Personnel | Aircraft Engineers

Previous military flying, instructional duties or overseas operational flying experience would be highly relevant.

The role requires someone who can remain calm when circumstances change, make sound decisions and operate effectively in complex or challenging environments.

    Additional Requirements

    Candidates must:

    - Be comfortable with frequent UK and international travel

    - Be able to work regularly from South West England when not deployed

    - Be eligible to obtain UK Security Check (SC) clearance

    - Have excellent spoken and written English

    - Possess a good standard of maths and physics

    - Be comfortable operating in demanding and potentially challenging environments

    Salary & Benefits

The role offers a salary of up to £48,000, depending upon experience, together with an excellent benefits package including:

    - Discretionary annual bonus

    - Company pension contribution matching up to 10%

    - 25 days annual leave plus Bank Holidays

    - Private Medical Insurance

    - Private Dental Care

    - Employee Assistance Programme

    - Ongoing professional and technical development

    - Career development opportunities

    - Employee rewards and high-street discount platform

    - Electric Car, Cycle to Work and Technology salary sacrifice schemes

This could be an excellent opportunity for someone who has spent part of their military career involved in aviation, flying or UAS operations and wants to take those skills into a growing area of the defence and aerospace sector.

If you still enjoy the operational environment, overseas deployments and flying, but are looking for the next stage of your career outside the Armed Forces, this role is certainly worth considering.
