How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

Ex-Mil Recruitment has been asked to recruit an experienced UAS Field Service Technicians for a rapidly growing organisation operating within the unmanned aviation, defence and security sector.

DUE TO THE NATURE OF THIS RECRUITMENT CONSULTANCY, WE ARE ONLY ABLE TO REPRESENT INDIVIDUALS WHO ARE EX MILITARY.

This is very much a hands-on field-based role and would particularly suit someone from a military aviation, UAV, avionics, electronics, mechanical engineering or technical engineering background who is comfortable deploying overseas and working in challenging environments.

Although technically a remote position, candidates need to understand that there will be a significant amount of international travel, including periods working at customer and operational locations around the world.

    The Role

Working as part of a specialist technical and operational team, you will support the delivery of UAV/UAS operations in the field.

    Your responsibilities will include:

    - Carrying out UAV/UAS system modifications and hardware integrations

    - Fault finding, diagnostics and troubleshooting

    - Installation and maintenance of UAV systems at customer locations

    - Working alongside engineering teams on the integration of new systems and technologies

    - Providing technical support both remotely and in the field

    - Supporting flight and operational activities

    - Identifying and mitigating technical and operational hazards

    - Providing feedback to engineering teams on system performance and limitations

    - Developing training material and delivering technical training to customers

    - Operating in a variety of environments, which may include remote, austere or potentially hostile locations

    Candidate Profile

We are looking for someone with a strong practical technical background who is equally comfortable working independently or as part of a wider operational team.

Ideally, you will have experience within one or more of the following areas:

    - UAV/UAS systems

    - Avionics

    - Electronics

    - Mechanical engineering

    - Aerospace engineering

    - Field service engineering

    - Technical support

    - Military aviation

Previous hands-on experience modifying, integrating, maintaining or troubleshooting technical systems would be particularly valuable.

You should also have a good working knowledge of maths and physics, together with an appropriate technical qualification or certification in UAV systems, electronics, avionics, engineering or a related discipline.

A1 and A3 CAA/EASA certificates are required, while additional UAV operation and safety qualifications would be advantageous.

This role could be particularly well suited to individuals leaving, or who have previously served within, the RAF, Royal Navy, AAC or other technically focused areas.

We would be interested in hearing from candidates with backgrounds including:

Aircraft Technicians | Avionics Technicians | Electronics Technicians | UAV/UAS Operators & Maintainers | REME Technicians | Aerospace Engineers

The ability to remain calm, solve problems and operate effectively when away from your normal support infrastructure will be just as important as your technical qualifications.

    Additional Requirements

    You must:

    - Be comfortable undertaking significant worldwide travel

    - Be capable of working in remote and challenging environments

    - Have excellent spoken and written English

    - Be confident communicating with customers and technical teams

    - Be eligible to obtain UK Security Check (SC) clearance

Additional language skills would be advantageous but are not essential.

    Salary & Benefits

The role offers a salary of up to £48,000, depending upon experience, together with an excellent benefits package which includes:

    - Discretionary annual bonus

    - Company pension contribution matching up to 10%

    - 25 days annual leave plus Bank Holidays

    - Private Medical Insurance

    - Private Dental Care

    - Employee Assistance Programme

    - Career development and ongoing technical training

    - Employee rewards and high-street discount platform

    - Electric Car, Cycle to Work and Technology salary sacrifice schemes

If you enjoy hands-on engineering, UAV technology, travel and working in operational environments, this could offer a very interesting next step in your career.
