How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Graduate Quantity Surveyor

    Grays, Essex
    £28,000 per annum

    We are recruiting for a Graduate Quantity Surveyor to join an established specialist construction subcontractor based in Grays, Essex.

    This is an excellent opportunity for a recent Quantity Surveying graduate looking to begin their career within the construction industry. You will work alongside experienced commercial staff and receive full training and support as you develop into a fully competent Quantity Surveyor.

    The Role

    You will assist with the commercial management of projects from tender stage through to completion.

    Your duties will include:

    * Assisting with the preparation of estimates and project budgets

    * Carrying out measurements and quantity take-offs from drawings

    * Obtaining quotations from suppliers and subcontractors

    * Assisting with procurement and placing subcontract orders

    * Preparing and submitting valuations

    * Monitoring project costs against budgets

    * Assisting with the identification and pricing of variations

    * Reviewing subcontractor applications and invoices

    * Supporting the preparation of monthly cost reports

    * Attending site meetings and carrying out site visits

    * Liaising with Project Managers, site teams, clients and suppliers

    * Assisting with final accounts and project close-out

    * Developing a strong understanding of commercial management within specialist subcontracting

    The Candidate

    You will ideally have recently completed, or be close to completing, a degree in Quantity Surveying or Commercial Management.

    Previous construction experience is not essential, although any placement, site or industry experience would be advantageous.

    You should be commercially minded, organised, confident with numbers and keen to develop a long-term career in Quantity Surveying.

    A driving licence would be beneficial due to occasional site visits.

    £28,000 per annum
