How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Trainee Site Manager

    Location: Cambridge
    Salary: £30-£33k depending on experience
    Projects: Commercial Developments | £500k–£5m
Travel: Sites within approximately 30 minutes of Cambridge

    The Opportunity

We are working with an established main contractor who is looking to appoint a Trainee Site Manager to join their growing team in Cambridge.

The business specialises in the delivery of commercial developments ranging from approximately £500k to £5m, offering an excellent opportunity for someone looking to develop their career within a main contracting environment.

This is a genuine development opportunity, with the successful candidate working closely with an experienced Site Manager while receiving additional support and guidance from the Contracts Manager and Construction Director.

    The Role

As a Trainee Site Manager, you will gain hands-on experience across the full delivery of commercial construction projects, supporting the Site Manager with the day-to-day running of the site.

    Your responsibilities will include:

Supporting the Site Manager with the day-to-day management of site activities
Assisting with subcontractor coordination and site logistics
Monitoring progress, quality and health & safety
Assisting with site inductions and toolbox talks
Helping to ensure works are delivered in line with programme and specification
Supporting the management of materials and deliveries
Liaising with subcontractors, suppliers and the wider project team
Assisting with site documentation and reporting
Developing your understanding of commercial construction project delivery
Progressing towards taking greater responsibility for sections of work and, ultimately, your own projects

    About You

We are looking for someone who is ambitious, organised and keen to build a long-term career in site management.

    Ideally, you will have:

    A construction-related degree, HNC/HND or relevant NVQ
Some exposure to the construction industry, either through employment or placement experience
A genuine interest in progressing into site management
    Strong communication and organisational skills
A proactive approach and willingness to learn
The ability to work effectively with subcontractors and project teams
    A full UK driving licence
Previous experience within commercial construction would be advantageous, but this role is primarily aimed at someone with the right qualifications, attitude and potential to progress.
