The Opportunity
We are working with an established main contractor who is looking to appoint a Trainee Site Manager to join their growing team in Cambridge.
The business specialises in the delivery of commercial developments ranging from approximately £500k to £5m, offering an excellent opportunity for someone looking to develop their career within a main contracting environment.
This is a genuine development opportunity, with the successful candidate working closely with an experienced Site Manager while receiving additional support and guidance from the Contracts Manager and Construction Director.
The Role
As a Trainee Site Manager, you will gain hands-on experience across the full delivery of commercial construction projects, supporting the Site Manager with the day-to-day running of the site.
Your responsibilities will include:
Supporting the Site Manager with the day-to-day management of site activities
Assisting with subcontractor coordination and site logistics
Monitoring progress, quality and health & safety
Assisting with site inductions and toolbox talks
Helping to ensure works are delivered in line with programme and specification
Supporting the management of materials and deliveries
Liaising with subcontractors, suppliers and the wider project team
Assisting with site documentation and reporting
Developing your understanding of commercial construction project delivery
Progressing towards taking greater responsibility for sections of work and, ultimately, your own projects
About You
We are looking for someone who is ambitious, organised and keen to build a long-term career in site management.
Ideally, you will have:
A construction-related degree, HNC/HND or relevant NVQ
Some exposure to the construction industry, either through employment or placement experience
A genuine interest in progressing into site management
Strong communication and organisational skills
A proactive approach and willingness to learn
The ability to work effectively with subcontractors and project teams
A full UK driving licence
Previous experience within commercial construction would be advantageous, but this role is primarily aimed at someone with the right qualifications, attitude and potential to progress.
