How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    High Voltage Manager

    Hertford
    £80,000–£95,000 + Package

You’ve spent years being the person trusted to make the call before an HV system is switched, isolated or energised.

The next step doesn’t have to mean spending the rest of your career carrying out the switching yourself.

This role takes that SAP experience and puts it at the centre of how a growing data centre contractor manages High Voltage across its projects.

You’ll become the technical authority for HV within the business, establishing the standards, procedures and competency framework that sit behind safe electrical delivery rather than simply operating under somebody else’s.

Based from the Hertford office, you’ll work across a portfolio of data centre projects, supporting project, construction and commissioning teams from installation through energisation and handover.

The role is particularly suited to someone who has operated as an SAP and understands what good HV governance looks like in practice, but now wants a wider management position covering people, processes, projects and technical standards.

The business delivers data centres from design and construction through M&E installation, commissioning and managed services, so your involvement won’t start when a facility becomes operational.

You’ll influence how HV systems are planned, installed, energised and ultimately handed over.

    What you'll do

    * Take overall responsibility for High Voltage standards and governance across multiple data centre projects

    * Develop, implement and maintain company HV electrical safety rules, procedures and safe systems of work

    * Provide technical leadership to SAPs, APs, project teams and electrical management

    * Assess and oversee the competency and appointment of authorised electrical personnel

    * Review and approve HV switching schedules, isolations and energisation strategies

    * Provide oversight of permit-to-work and electrical safety documentation

    * Support project teams during HV installation, testing, commissioning and energisation

    * Review electrical RAMS, switching plans, SOPs, MOPs and EOPs

    * Provide senior technical support during shutdowns, faults and abnormal operating conditions

    * Lead or support root-cause investigations following electrical incidents or failures

    * Audit projects, electrical contractors and authorised personnel against company standards

    * Work with Construction Managers, Project Managers and Commissioning Managers to ensure HV risks are identified early

    * Support the selection and management of specialist HV subcontractors

    * Mentor and develop SAPs, APs and other electrical personnel within the business

    * Maintain awareness of changes in HV legislation, standards and industry best practice

    * Help build a consistent HV operating model across a growing UK and international data centre portfolio

    What you'll need

    * Significant High Voltage electrical experience within data centres, critical infrastructure or similarly complex environments

    * Current or previous Senior Authorised Person status

    * Strong practical understanding of HV switching, isolation, energisation and permit-to-work systems

    * Experience working with HV/LV distribution systems, transformers, switchgear, UPS and generators

    * Experience supporting commissioning and energisation activities

    * Strong knowledge of electrical safety rules and safe systems of work

    * The ability to assess competency and provide technical guidance to SAPs and APs

    * Experience managing contractors, technical teams or electrical operations

    * Strong communication skills and the confidence to challenge project teams where electrical safety or technical standards are at risk

You don’t necessarily need to be looking for another SAP position.

In fact, this role is better suited to someone who has already done that job and wants to use that experience at a higher level.

    About the company

James Lewis is supporting an established specialist data centre contractor delivering projects across the UK, Europe and internationally.

The business provides end-to-end data centre delivery across design, construction, mechanical and electrical installation, commissioning, connectivity and managed services.

As the company continues to expand its electrical and critical infrastructure capability, the High Voltage Manager will have the opportunity to shape how HV operations are managed across the business rather than simply inheriting an existing system.
