How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Senior Quantity Surveyor – Tier 1 Principal Contractor

    Major Education & Healthcare Projects – Leighton Buzzard

    Salary/Package: £75,000 – £90,000 + Car Allowance + Pension + Private Medical + Discretionary Bonus

    O’Neill and Brennan are currently working with a leading Tier 1 principal contractor with an annual turnover in excess of £1bn, who are looking to appoint an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join their growing commercial team.

    The successful candidate will work on major education and healthcare schemes, with the first project being a major development valued at over £450m. The role will involve taking commercial responsibility across complex and high-value packages, working closely with the wider project team to ensure successful commercial delivery.

    The ideal candidate will have previous experience working on similar large-scale public sector projects for a principal contractor, with strong PCSA and post-contract experience. Experience managing complex subcontract packages, controlling project costs and taking packages through to final account will be essential.

    This is an excellent opportunity to join an established Tier 1 contractor with a strong project pipeline and significant long-term progression opportunities.

    Responsibilities:

    Taking commercial responsibility for major and complex public sector projects
    Managing high-value and technically complex subcontract packages from procurement through to final account
    Preparing subcontract enquiries, tender analysis, negotiations and recommendations for award
    Managing subcontractor payments, valuations, variations and final accounts
    Monitoring project costs, forecasting expenditure and maintaining accurate commercial reporting
    Identifying commercial risks and opportunities and implementing appropriate cost control measures
    Working across both PCSA and post-contract stages of projects
    Working closely with project managers, construction teams, design teams, clients and consultants to ensure successful project delivery
    Building and maintaining strong relationships with clients, consultants and subcontractors
    Supporting the wider commercial team throughout the delivery of major schemes
    Requirements:

    Proven experience working as a Quantity Surveyor/Senior Quantity Surveyor for a principal or main contractor
    Experience delivering major public sector projects, ideally within education and/or healthcare
    Strong PCSA and post-contract experience
    Proven experience managing complex and high-value subcontract packages
    Strong experience in cost control, commercial reporting, valuations, variations and final accounts
    Strong commercial awareness with excellent negotiation and communication skills
    Ability to work effectively within a large project team and manage significant commercial responsibilities
    Experience working on projects of £100m+ would be highly advantageous
