How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Our client, a global leader in sustainability solutions, is seeking a Principal Highways Engineer to join their Transport Planning and Engineering team in Manchester. This permanent role offers an exciting opportunity to deliver high-profile projects across various sectors, including residential, commercial, energy, infrastructure and the built environment.

    Key Responsibilities:

    Technical leadership and project management of highways and infrastructure projects
    Preparation and review of General Arrangement Plans and highway designs
    Design and delivery of S278/S171 Highway Schemes and S38 Highway Adoption Schemes
    Development of highway layouts for new developments, including site access junctions, roundabouts and active travel measures
    Client management, business development and proposal support
    Mentoring, coaching and supporting the development of junior engineers and technicians
    Collaboration with drainage, lighting, infrastructure and environmental specialists across multidisciplinary projects

    Job Requirements:

    Substantial experience delivering UK highways and infrastructure projects
    A degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline
    A strong track record of managing projects, clients and multidisciplinary teams
    Demonstrable knowledge of UK highway design guidance, standards and approval processes
    Experience designing development-related highway infrastructure, including junctions and access arrangements
    Experience preparing highway designs for S278/S171 and S38 schemes
    Strong project management, organisational, communication and stakeholder engagement skills
    Experience mentoring, managing and developing engineers and technicians
    Strong technical problem-solving, reporting and design capabilities
