How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Small Animal Veterinary Surgeon to join an amazing new independent practice in County Durham, which opened its doors this year, and is already expanding rapidly.

    This is a fantastic opportunity for a vet who wants to become part of something genuinely exciting from the very beginning. The practice has ambitious plans for the future and is building a friendly, supportive team with a strong focus on providing excellent patient care while creating a really positive working environment for its people.

    The Role:

    The successful Veterinary Surgeon will work 40 hours per week over four days, giving them a fantastic four-day working week and an excellent work-life balance.

    And the best part? There are no weekends, no out-of-hours and all bank holidays are off!

    The package includes:

    * £40,000–£60,000 per annum, depending on experience

    * 40 hours per week over 4 days

    * No weekend work

    * No out-of-hours

    * All bank holidays off

    * 5 weeks' annual leave

    * Unlimited CPD allowance

    * Visa sponsorship considered for the right candidate

    The practice is looking for a vet who is passionate about small animal medicine, enjoys building relationships with clients and wants to work somewhere that genuinely values both its patients and its people.

    A New Practice With Big Ambitions

    Having only opened this year, the practice is already growing at an impressive rate. Joining at this stage means the successful candidate will have the opportunity to become a key member of the team and help shape the practice as it continues to develop.

    As an independent practice, there is a real emphasis on creating a supportive, friendly and enjoyable place to work, without the feeling of being part of a large corporate organisation.

    The team is committed to providing high-quality veterinary care while ensuring that its vets have the time, support and resources they need to do their jobs well.

    Living & Working in County Durham

    County Durham offers a fantastic combination of beautiful countryside, historic towns and easy access to some of the North East's best attractions.

    The practice is ideally positioned for those who enjoy the benefits of a quieter lifestyle while still wanting excellent access to larger towns and cities. Durham City, with its stunning cathedral, riverside walks and historic centre, is close by, while Newcastle is also easily accessible.

    For those who love the outdoors, County Durham has plenty to offer. The county stretches from the Durham Dales and its walking and cycling routes to the Durham Coast, with dramatic clifftop scenery, beaches and coastal walks.

    The Ideal Candidate:

    The practice is looking for a Veterinary Surgeon who is:

    * RCVS registered and eligible to work in the UK

    * Confident working in small animal first opinion practice

    * Passionate about delivering high-quality patient care

    * A strong communicator who enjoys building relationships with clients

    * A supportive and collaborative team member

    * Keen to develop their skills

    * Excited by the opportunity to join a rapidly growing independent practice

    Above all, they're looking for someone who wants to be part of a friendly, ambitious and genuinely independent practice, where they can enjoy their career while maintaining a fantastic quality of life outside work.

    If you're looking for a new opportunity with no weekends, no OOH, generous CPD and the chance to help shape an exciting new practice from the ground up, this could be the role for you.

    For further information, an informal chat, or to apply, please email Debbie Loding at Debbie@vettedrecruitment.co.uk or 07384 551799 today.

    You must be a qualified Veterinary Surgeon and eligible to register with the RCVS to be considered for this role.
