How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

Legal Counsel – 6 Month FTC (to perm)

    Financial Services / Insurance

    £110,000–£120,000 + 10% bonus

6-month FTC with potential to become permanent

We are working with a well-established, regulated financial services organisation looking to add a Legal Counsel to its small in-house legal team on an initial 6-month fixed-term contract.

This is a broad commercial role with plenty of exposure across the business and would suit a lawyer who enjoys being close to stakeholders and taking ownership of a varied workload. There is also a genuine possibility that the role could develop into a permanent position.

    The role

You will work closely with the Head of Legal and wider business, with a particular focus on:

    • Drafting, reviewing and negotiating a range of commercial and supplier contracts
    • Advising the business on contractual risk and day-to-day commercial legal matters
    • Supporting matters relating to procurement and supplier arrangements
    • Providing legal advice within a regulated environment
    • Assisting with data protection and privacy matters where required
    • Working directly with stakeholders across the organisation and providing practical, commercially focused advice

    About you

We are ideally looking for a lawyer with approximately 3–7 years' PQE, although there is flexibility for the right person.

    You are likely to have:

    • Strong commercial contracts experience, particularly supplier agreements
    • Previous in-house legal experience
    • Experience working within a regulated financial services environment
    • Insurance or reinsurance experience would be particularly attractive, including exposure to the FCA and PRA
    • Banking or wider regulated financial services backgrounds will also be considered
    • Public procurement experience would be a significant advantage
    • Some exposure to data protection would be useful

This could be particularly well suited to someone who trained in private practice before moving in-house, or a private practice lawyer who has gained meaningful in-house experience through secondments.

The business is looking for someone who can quickly become a trusted member of a small legal team, while still having the opportunity to build a longer-term future with the organisation.
