Role Description: The Freelance CAD Designer role is a full-time remote position responsible for producing precise 2D and 3D technical drawings and models to support additive manufacturing and advanced materials projects. Day-to-day tasks include developing and refining CAD designs, creating construction and engineering drawings, and translating design concepts into manufacturable components. The designer will collaborate closely with engineers and researchers to ensure designs meet performance, sustainability, and production requirements, while adhering to industry standards and project specifications. Responsibilities also include revising drawings based on feedback, maintaining organized design documentation, and contributing to design strategies that improve efficiency, scalability, and material usage. The role requires proactive communication in a remote environment and the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
Qualifications
- Strong technical drawing skills, including Technical Drawing and general Drawing, with the ability to represent complex concepts clearly and accurately.
- Proficiency in Computer-Aided Design (CAD) tools and workflows, with experience creating detailed 2D and 3D models for engineering and manufacturing.
- Experience producing Construction Drawings and related documentation that align with industry standards and support fabrication or installation.
- Background in Design Engineering, including understanding of mechanical principles, tolerances, materials, and manufacturability considerations.
- Experience with designs for additive manufacturing (3D printing), including part optimization, support structures, and material-specific constraints.
- Ability to interpret and work from specifications, sketches, and experimental data, and to collaborate effectively with cross-functional technical teams.
- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage full-time remote freelance work across multiple projects and deadlines.
- Relevant education in engineering, industrial design, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience; experience in sustainable or low-carbon design is an advantage.
