How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Company Overview

Join a well-established professional services organisation with a strong people-focused culture and a commitment to making a positive impact on its employees and wider communities. The organisation offers a supportive and collaborative working environment where employees are encouraged to develop their skills, contribute ideas and play an active role in its continued success.

    Role Overview

We are looking for an experienced and proactive HR Advisor to join a busy HR team in Exeter. This permanent, full-time opportunity will see you act as a trusted point of contact for managers and colleagues, providing practical, commercially minded HR advice across a broad range of people matters.

This is a varied generalist HR role with a particular focus on employee relations, absence management, HR policies and procedures, compliance and day-to-day advisory support. You will also contribute to recruitment, wellbeing and employee engagement initiatives. The role offers hybrid working, with office attendance required 3 to 4 days per week.

    Responsibilities of the HR Advisor:

    • Provide practical and supportive HR advice to managers and employees across a broad range of employee relations and people matters.
    • Support employee relations cases, absence management, HR policies, procedures and compliance activity.
    • Manage a varied workload effectively, ensuring HR matters are handled professionally, accurately and confidentially.
    • Support the wider HR team with recruitment, employee wellbeing and engagement initiatives.

    Requirements of the HR Advisor:

    • A minimum of 3 years' recent experience as an HR Advisor or within a comparable generalist HR position, with strong employee relations experience.
    • CIPD Level 5 qualification or equivalent.
    • Strong, up-to-date knowledge of UK employment law and HR best practice, with the ability to provide balanced and practical advice.
    • Confident communication, organisation and HR systems skills, with previous professional services experience, ideally within a legal environment, desirable.

    Benefits

    • Hybrid and flexible working arrangements to support work-life balance.
    • 25 days' annual leave, plus bank holidays and your birthday off.
    • Private medical insurance and group life assurance.
    • Comprehensive wellbeing support.
    • Three additional days' paid leave to support good causes.
    • Training, mentoring, qualification opportunities and continued professional development.

If you're an experienced HR Advisor looking for a varied generalist role where you can make an impact from day one, we'd love to hear from you. Apply today or get in touch with Cathedral Appointments to find out more.

Note on Sponsorship: We regret to inform you that at this time, we are unable to offer sponsorship for work authorisation for this role. Therefore, candidates must possess valid authorisation to work in the UK without requiring visa sponsorship.
