Purpose of the Role
The Supervision Officer will undertake risk and evidence-based supervision of regulated individuals, organisations and education or training providers.
The role will involve reviewing information, assessing regulatory risk and supporting proportionate regulatory action to ensure regulated bodies continue to meet required professional and regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Undertake risk-based supervision of regulated individuals, organisations and education or training providers.
- Review and assess information received through regulatory returns, questionnaires and other information gathering exercises.
- Conduct desk-based reviews of regulated organisations and individuals.
- Support and participate in supervision visits.
- Contribute to thematic reviews examining specific areas of regulatory risk or concern.
- Undertake compliance testing against relevant regulatory requirements and standards.
- Assess reports, submissions and other information received from regulated bodies.
- Review information produced by external assessors, examiners or other professional advisers.
- Analyse qualitative and quantitative information to identify potential regulatory risks, trends and areas requiring further investigation.
- Produce clear written reports summarising supervision activity, findings and recommendations.
- Apply established risk frameworks to support consistent and evidence based regulatory decision making.
- Plan and support supervision projects, including developing appropriate systems and processes to administer the work effectively.
- Maintain accurate and complete case management and electronic records.
- Manage team and case management inboxes, ensuring correspondence and information is handled appropriately.
- Coordinate supervision visits, meetings and other regulatory activities.
- Organise meetings, prepare documentation and produce accurate records and minutes.
- Support the administration of arrangements with external assessors, contractors and professional advisers.
- Build constructive working relationships with regulated individuals, organisations and internal stakeholders.

Person Specification
Essential
- Degree level qualification or equivalent professional experience.
- Experience of analysing complex information and reaching evidence based conclusions.
- Ability to assess risk and make proportionate decisions within an established regulatory, compliance or policy framework.
- Ability to work independently and take responsibility for delivering high quality work.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines.
- Ability to work effectively within a busy and periodically pressured environment.
- Strong written communication skills, including the ability to produce clear, accurate and well structured reports.
- Strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to build effective working relationships with colleagues and external stakeholders.
- Confidence communicating with individuals and organisations operating within a regulated environment.

- Experience working within a professional regulator, regulatory body, membership organisation or similar environment.
- Knowledge or understanding of professional regulation.
- Experience within legal services, professional services or another regulated profession.
- Experience of regulating or overseeing professional education or training providers.
- Experience undertaking risk based reviews, regulatory assessments, audits, inspections or compliance reviews.
- Experience applying a formal risk framework.
- Experience of regulatory supervision or compliance monitoring.
- Experience planning or delivering projects using recognised project management principles.
