How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Controls & Robotics Engineer

    A growing automation and engineering business is seeking an experienced Controls & Robotics Engineer to join its close-knit engineering team. The role will involve designing, programming, integrating, commissioning and supporting bespoke automation systems across manufacturing and packaging environments.

    This would suit an experienced controls engineer who is comfortable programming systems from scratch, working hands-on with PLCs and robotics, and taking projects through from initial design and development to installation, commissioning and customer handover.

    Key Responsibilities

    * Design and programme PLC, HMI, SCADA and industrial network systems from scratch.

    * Design, programme and integrate industrial robotic systems into automated machinery.

    * Develop control architectures and automation solutions alongside mechanical and electrical engineering teams.

    * Take ownership of automation projects from concept and design through to build, commissioning and handover.

    * Carry out installation, commissioning, testing and fault-finding at customer sites.

    * Service, troubleshoot and improve existing control and robotic systems.

    * Work directly with customers, suppliers and multidisciplinary engineering teams.

    * Provide customer training and technical support.

    * Manage project activities, priorities and technical risks.

    * Support and mentor other controls and automation engineers.

    * Ensure projects are delivered safely, effectively and to a high technical standard.

    What You’ll Bring

    * Proven experience within industrial controls, automation and robotics.

    * Strong PLC programming experience with Siemens and/or Allen-Bradley/Rockwell.

    * Experience programming HMI/touchscreens and SCADA systems.

    * Hands-on experience programming and integrating industrial robots — FANUC particularly desirable, although ABB, Kawasaki or Nachi experience is also relevant.

    * Good knowledge of industrial networks, particularly PROFINET and/or EtherNet/IP.

    * Experience working with automated machinery within a manufacturing environment.

    * Strong hands-on experience with installation, commissioning, servicing and fault-finding.

    * Experience working directly with customers, suppliers and wider engineering teams.

    * Ability to work independently, troubleshoot problems methodically and take ownership of projects.

    * A practical, flexible and hands-on approach to engineering.

    * Comfortable travelling regularly to customer sites, including international travel to Europe, USA and Canada.

    * Full UK driving licence.

    Must already have the legal right to work in the UK — no sponsorship available.

    Desirable Experience

    * FANUC robotics.

    * EPLAN electrical design.

    * Machine vision systems.

    * Plastics processing, container handling or packaging machinery.

    * Project management / technical ownership of automation projects.

    * Previous commissioning experience outside the UK.
